Is love ever truly painful, or is it the expectations and stories we place upon it? We encounter people, situations, and circumstances and behaviours that don’t align with what we expect, hoped for, and we feel hurt, loss, or grief, but perhaps love itself is always there. It flows freely, quietly, persistently, within us, through us, beyond us.

Sometimes It is necessary to leave situations or people that hurt us. That doesn’t mean love disappears. We can still hold it in our hearts, even as we step away. Maybe the pain is not love itself, but the ways we close ourselves to it, the ways we expect it to fit a certain story, a certain shape, a certain outcome.

Even when the world as it is now feels harsh, divided, ego-led, or small-minded, love quietly persists like a silent whisper that often gets ignored. It has the capacity to care, to forgive, to understand, and to hold both ourselves and others with compassion. It takes courage to notice it, and even more to let it move through us freely and fully, unbarred and untethered, and to keep our hearts open even in the tension, even when love feels fragile or unseen.

And yet, I dream that we are getting closer in allowing our hearts to open even when we disagree, even when we feel hurt, attacked, or let down? Can love exist alongside frustration with leaders, governments, politicians, systems that feel unjust? Are we, ourselves, fractured too, in our fears, our stories, our expectations? These are hard questions. And maybe the invitation of love is to notice it quietly, persistently, within ourselves, even in the tension, even in the uncertainty. Might love still exist here, inviting a different way of being, even amidst the cracks?
