Living with chronic illness or long-term pain takes an enormous amount of energy and most of that energy is invisible to everyone around you.

There's the physical management. The appointments. The adjustments you make without thinking. The things you can no longer do, or can only do differently. And then there's everything underneath that: the grief for the life you thought you'd have, the identity shift that nobody prepares you for, the guilt, the frustration, the days when you have to explain yourself again when you're already exhausted.

The emotional weight of chronic illness is real. And it deserves just as much attention as the physical.

Counselling can offer a space to process what it's actually like to live in your body without having to be positive about it, or reassure anyone, or minimise what's hard.

You don't have to carry it quietly.

I have specialist training in supporting people with chronic health conditions, and I have personal experience of living with disability. Free consultations are available, visit footstepscounselling.com to get in touch.

3am and your brain has decided it's the perfect time to process everything that's ever gone wrong.

Sound familiar?

Anxiety loves the night, when there's nothing left to distract from it.
These are two of the tools I share most often with clients who struggle to switch off at bedtime. Swipe through and save this one for tonight if you need it.

If anxiety is affecting your sleep regularly, it's worth exploring what's underneath it.

If you have ADHD, or suspect you might, there's a good chance you've spent years being told, or telling yourself, that you're lazy. Disorganised. Forgetful. Not trying hard enough.

It's exhausting to grow up believing that the way your brain works is a personal failing.

The challenges are real, with focus, emotional regulation, time management, relationships. But those challenges are not evidence of weakness. They're evidence of a brain that works differently in a world that wasn't designed with that in mind.

Counselling can help you understand yourself more clearly, build strategies that work for you, and let go of some of the shame that so often comes alongside a late or missed diagnosis.

You deserve support that actually fits how you think.

I work with ADHD and neurodiversity-related stress.

Most of us wouldn't dream of speaking to a friend the way we speak to ourselves.

The inner critic can be relentless, and when it's been there long enough, it starts to sound like the truth. It isn't.

Swipe through for three things to try next time that voice gets loud. These are tools I use regularly in my work with clients, and they're a good place to start.

Self-compassion isn't about pretending everything is fine. It's about being as fair to yourself as you would be to someone you care about. If your inner critic has been running the show for a long time, I can help.

GCSE season is well underway, and if you're a teenager sitting exams right now, or a parent watching your child go through it, I want you to know that the pressure you're feeling is real.

Exams are stressful. That's not a weakness.
That's a completely normal response to high-stakes situations.

A few things worth remembering right now:
👉Anxiety before an exam means you care, it doesn't mean you're going to fail.
👉Your brain works better when your body has slept, eaten, and had some air.
👉Revision at 2am is rarely as useful as it feels.
👉One paper does not define you. Not this week, not ever.
👉And if the anxiety feels like more than just exam nerves. if it's affecting sleep, appetite, or how you're coping day to day, that's worth paying attention to.

You don't have to push through alone.

I work with young people from age 11, and with adults who are supporting anxious teenagers. If you'd like to talk, I offer a free initial consultation.

Grief doesn't always look the way people expect.🌈

It isn't always loud. It doesn't always arrive right away. And it doesn't disappear once enough time has passed.

Sometimes grief resurfaces years later, triggered by a date, a smell, a piece of music. Sometimes it sits quietly in the background, colouring everything without announcing itself. Sometimes it looks like anger, or numbness, or simply feeling not quite right and not being able to explain why.

There is no correct way to grieve. And there is no timeline you're supposed to be following.

If you're carrying a loss, however it looks, however long ago it happened, that is worth tending to. You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support.
Sometimes you just need space to say the things that are still there.

I work with grief and loss of all kinds, including pregnancy loss, miscarriage, and stillbirth.

Just wanted to share something new with you all 💛

I’ve created a children’s anxiety workbook called When Worries Feel Big, now available on Amazon ✨Based on Katie the character from my book Mum & Me : The Perfect Team and new book that will be out in autumn Kenny’s Invisible Weight.

It’s designed to help children understand their worries and learn simple, calming ways to cope in a really gentle, easy-to-follow way. I’ve already had lots of really lovely feedback on how helpful it’s been too 🌟

If you do pick up a copy, I’d be so grateful if you could leave an Amazon review ⭐ It really helps other people find it as well.

Thank you so much ❤️
