In Chinese astrology, the Horse represents freedom, momentum, and independence.

Because the Horse is naturally a "fire" sign, its pairing with the Fire element—known as a "double fire" year—intensifies these qualities to their most extreme.

Happy Lunar New Year everyone.

As part of my Monday / Menopause Multibed I volunteer with Access to Acupuncture CIC. Our frontline workers are under a lot of physical and emotional pressure, and they really need our help.

All of the practitioners are currently volunteering their time and skills to assist others in their healing journey.

If you want to support us — whether it’s by donating, sharing, or just getting the word out — please check out our Crowdfunder:

Free acupuncture for frontline workers in Coventry & Warwickshire to fight stress, trauma and burnout.

Fast Facts About Acupuncture

Over 300 Points
There are over 300, sometimes cited as over 2,000, acupuncture points on the body connected by meridians (channels/energy pathways).

Diagnostic Techniques
Practitioners often use pulse diagnosis and tongue examination to diagnose imbalances.

Global Usage
According to the World Health Organisation, acupuncture is used in 103 countries.

Not Just for Pain
Beyond pain (back, neck, knee), it is used for many acute and chronic health issues including depression, insomnia, and nausea from chemotherapy.

The "Hair" Thinness
Modern needles are flexible, sterile, and as thin as a human hair, causing little to no pain.

Neuroscience Basis
Modern research indicates acupuncture can stimulate nerves, release pain-relieving endorphins, and affect neuroanatomy to reduce inflammation, including cytokine storms.

Choosing to embrace self-care activities is important. Winter can intensify symptoms like low mood, fatigue, joint pain, and dry skin due to reduced sunlight affecting our levels of serotonin and melatonin.

The colder temperatures effect temperature dysregulation (hot flashes/chills), and changes in diet and exercise exacerbate these issues.

Self-care, like layering clothes, prioritising going for a walk in daylight, light therapy, indoor exercise (yoga/Pilates), hydration, and going for acupuncture could all help.

By proactively managing these areas, you can build resilience and thrive through the winter months during menopause.
