Here are some first aid tips that can be helpful in various situations:
1. **CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation):**
Learn how to perform CPR. It can be a lifesaver during cardiac arrest. Remember the ratio of 30 chest compressions to 2 rescue breaths.
2. **Choking:**
If someone is choking and can't breathe or talk, help by giving 5 slaps on the back inbetween the shoulder blades if that doesn't work give the 5 abdominal thrusts if that doesn't work call 999 and continue 5 back slaps 5 abdominal thrusts until the object is dislodged.
3. **Burns:**
For minor burns, cool the area with running cold water for at least 20 minutes. Cover with a clean, non-stick dressing. For severe burns, seek medical help immediately.
4. **Cuts and Wounds:**
Clean the wound with mild soap and water, then cover it with a sterile dressing or bandage. Apply pressure if bleeding is heavy.
5. **Fractures:**
Keep the injured limb immobile, and support it with a splint or bandage. Seek medical assistance.
6. **Heat Stroke:**
If someone shows signs of heatstroke (excessive sweating, confusion, rapid pulse), move them to a cooler place, give fluids, and fan them while seeking medical help.
7. **Stroke:**
Remember the FAST acronym - Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call emergency services. Act quickly in case of a stroke.
8. **Seizures:**
Protect the person from injury by moving objects away. Place them on their side after the seizure ends and stay with them.
9. **Allergic Reactions:**
Administer an EpiPen if available for severe allergic reactions. For mild reactions, antihistamines like Benadryl may help.
10. **Poisoning:**
If someone ingests a toxic substance, call Poison Control immediately. Do not induce vomiting unless instructed.
