“Everyone talks about anterior cruciate ligament and ankle injuries..... But people don’t realise the danger of undetected heart conditions until a tragedy strikes, so it’s important that everyone realises cardiac screening can save lives,” Lawrence says.

Kaitlin now part of CRY's Myheart network is working with the Netball Players’ Association and CRY, and has successfully campaigned for cardiac screening to be introduced in the Super League next season.

myheart

CRY’s myheart network provides personalised help, support, and information to individuals who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening inherited or congenital cardiac condition. myheart is a support system for individuals to help develop effective coping strategies and reduce social isolation.

The network was developed in response to feedback from young people who found that support groups available were not effective in helping them deal with issues such as fitting of ICDs, pacemakers and undergoing ablation surgery. We have dedicated resources for young people under the age of 35 who have been diagnosed with a cardiac condition, as well as information and support resources for anyone over the age of 18 who has been diagnosed with a cardiac condition when they thought that they were fit and healthy.
