Very annoyingly my Instagram posts no longer automatically post on here, so apologies for being a little distant recently.

Something VERY exciting started a couple of weeks ago … the demolition and rebuild of our outbuildings … part of which will become my new Pod.

I’ll keep you updated of the progress , along with what’s been going on in the current Pod. Exciting times ahead 🤩🫛✨

BREATHE // The Easter holidays are here and the sun is shining … and I’m still in my pjs pottering. This Spring term seems to have gone on FOREVER!!!

It’s been wonderfully happy and busy in the Pods … a couple of weeks ago it was Mother’s Day and the Peas made some wonderful cards, and since then (with Easter nearly upon us) Easter treats have been in the making 🐣

A lot of people think how is this therapy by baking and creating?!? By engaging the creative side of the brain, it strengthens the bridge (corpus collasum) to the thinking / logical / language brain. It also, and very importantly, supports a relationship to build and in turn trust 🧩

By working alongside each other, focusing on a creative activity, it gives a safe space to open up, chat, explore and support any struggles the Peas are dealing with. Connection is key 🧠

And in other news … in readiness for the hot weather, I now have a Summer Pod (aka The Coddington Circus) 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 The Pod gets stupidly hot in the summer (as it is a conservatory), so this will be wonderful to use until the new Pod is built 🎪🫛✨

EXPANDING // I’ve been a bit quiet on here as life has become a wee bit busier than before … in a good way. Five years ago, Peapods and Stars was founded and I never thought it would take off as it has. I’m extremely excited to announce that I now have a second Pod 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I was approached by a local prep school to open a Pod on their premises, to support their pupils and families. I was absolutely thrilled, especially as I’m an ex-pupil (from MANY years ago) and being back here has brought back so many happy and funny memories.

Pod sessions started last week and the children I’ve been working with are an absolute delight. I’m looking forward to seeing how the Pod grows and making a difference 🫛✨

ARR-ARGGGHHHH // I love fancy dress. I love reading stories to children … especially with voices. So today was a GREAT day … World Book Day! I read to a group of children the book The Pirates Next Door by Jonny Duddle, followed by The Dinosaur That Pooped A Planet by Tom Fletcher & Dougie Poynter.

Reading has so many benefits, so to encourage children to enjoy books is incredibly important. These benefits include …

📕Learning and intellectual growth
📙Improve vocabulary, comprehension and communication
📔Develop empathy and compassion
📗Inspired innovation
📘Understand the world we live in and with those we share it with
📕Reduce stress and anxiety
📙Improve sleep, concentration and focus
📔Increase self-esteem

Also important for us adults too! 📚🫛✨

FEELINGS // Children get angry and frustrated if they can’t verbalise how they are feeling, and many don’t recognise the sensations that accompany these feelings. With the help of the fantastic book In My Heart - A Book of Feelings by Jo Witek, we looked at and thought about our different emotions and created some wonderful, creative pieces ❤️🫛✨

TA-DAH // I’m back! Although I’ve been distant from social media, I’ve not been distant from The Pod, the Peas and their families. Far from it, but sometimes you just need to take a step back and focus on priorities.

It’s been a busy summer, welcoming new Peas, waving goodbye to those shining bright, and supporting parents. I can’t believe it’s October already, and Halloween is looming, so that was the theme of today’s session. A pumpkin lantern and a science experiment 🎃

Other news … Otto now has a little friend, Mari the Welsh Terrier, I am now full-time nurture and wellbeing support at school, and we’ve finally got planning permission to demolish and rebuild the outbuildings … my dream of a purpose-built Pod will now be reality 🫛✨

SHADOW // This little, fluffy chap is three today and as you know from my previous post, Otto helps so many children (and adults) in lots of different ways. Happy 3rd Birthday my little shadow 🥳🫛✨

OTTO // … is never far from the Peas! You can really see the benefits of the children’s interactions with Otto … in The Pod and at school.

At school …
🐾 a quiet little girl who, whenever possible, goes over for a snuggle and a chat with Otto
🐾 Otto supports children who are displaying big emotions, or who are struggling to come into school
🐾 children are aware of dangers to Otto (raisins on the floor, Otto chewing pencils, pens, rubbers) and alert me - keeping him safe
🐾 Otto has been known to enjoy a game of catch or a walk round the playing field with children who aren’t wanting to do PE
🐾 a little lad who finds it difficult to focus in phonics, is helped by Otto listening to him reading.

In the Pod …
🐾 Peas will talk to Otto if they struggle to talk to me
🐾 Peas enjoy teaching / practicing tricks with Otto giving them a sense of success
🐾 Otto gets taken for a walk in the nearby fields, getting the Peas outside and feeling responsible for keeping Otto safe
🐾 Otto helps the Peas clear up when they drop biscuit crumbs, drop / spill ingredients when cooking or baking
🐾 Otto shows the Peas the impact of their choices / actions, eg this week Otto’s not liked loud screaming or bubbles being blown on his face
🐾 Peas are always greeted with a very excited, wagging tail … a positive as soon as they arrive.

Therapy / school dogs support children (and adults) in decreasing the feelings of anxiety, sadness and dysregulation, are a happy distraction, provide responsibility and companionship, increases physical activity and self-esteem 🐾🫛✨

BLAST OFF // Today the Pea and I made a rocket and I loved it as much as he did. It’s a calming rocket and is a place where the Pea can go when he’s feeling dysregulated 🚀

This gorgeous little chap struggles with his anger and wasn’t happy to talk to me, his teachers, or his parents about why the volcano in his tummy last erupted. But … he was happy to talk to Marvin the alien, who pops up in the rocket window when needed thanks to a split pin 👽

I recommend to many parents to create a calm den in their home, so the child has a specific place to go to when they have big emotions. It is important that they have a say in what the den looks like, where it is, and what is inside to help them calm and become regulated again.

I smiled on the inside and out when I received the message from the Pea’s mother later today. Love my job and love making a difference 🫛✨

HAPPEA CHRISTMAS // What a fabulous build up to Christmas it’s been. Lots of Christmas crafts and baking in the Pod, and at school the KS1 nativity, panto trip, Christingle service, breakfast with Santa, and fancy dress 🎅🏼

It’s been a funny few months hence the lack of posts, but I shall be back to it in the New Year … along with helping to shape little minds 🧠

Otto and I hope you’re all having a Merry Christmas and that 2024 is happy, healthy, positive and fun. We also send love, wags and thoughts to those people who find this time of year a struggle / difficult 🫛✨

The first photo is of one of my favourite gifts 💚
