Here at Deer Park our home is full of animal lovers, , so we were delighted to welcome back two vey sssspecial snakes Sasha and Scarlet, along Dudley the adorable earlier this week.

Sasha, an and Scarlet a belong to our very own , housekeeper Sharon and her partner Adam. Many of our residents and staff were brave enough to hold these two beauties and resident Anne said “I wasn’t sure how I'd feel being so close to a snake, but it was fantastic. I’ve never had the chance to hold one before and it was magical.” 🐍 🪄

Dudley is a and along with his human Rosemary is a regular visitor to our home. Our ladies, gents and staff always look forward to a cuddle with him, after all who could resist this ulti-mutt cutie! 🐕‍🦺

Our Client Services Manager, Viv has had a busy few weeks out and about in our community, supporting local businesses and charities. She was delighted to be invited to the recent opening of Megan Baker House “Ledbury Two” – A new chapter in support for children and adults with neurological disorders. 💗💙

Located in the heart of Ledbury, Ledbury Two represents a significant expansion for Megan Baker House (MBH), allowing the organisation to reach more families and meet increasing demand for its specialised programmes.

The new facility will offer tailored support for children with conditions including and and adults with conditions including , , and .

John Gough, CEO of Megan Baker House, said:

“The opening of Ledbury Two is a milestone for us and reflects both the growing recognition of the impact that conductive education can have for all age groups and the increasing demand for our services across , and beyond. We’re excited to expand our reach and provide even more children and adults with the skills, confidence, and independence they deserve. Ledbury One and Two are the core facilities of the charity but we also operate a project called REACHOUT which delivers conductive education in at ten other venues including three schools. ”

The Ledbury Two opening performed by His Majesty’s for Herefordshire, Edward Harley, CBE, welcomed local funders, supporters, and dignitaries, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This new facility features purpose-built spaces designed to foster learning, development and wellbeing in a warm and supportive environment. There is also an office for client meetings and a beautiful garden where partners, parents and family members can meet and chat.

Throughout the month of May, our Home Trainer Mandy took part in the challenge, by completing a sponsored bike ride in our gym, ably assisted by resident Margaret 🚴‍♀️

Once the challenge was over, the donations kept flooding in and these two lovely ladies have now raised an incredible £445 for ! 💰

Mandy explained why she chose to raise money for :

"My friend Susan's son George has had this condition for 8 years and so she decided to run 2k every day in May, as part of the Every Day In May For Dravet challenge. So I chose to do a sponsored bike ride to support her.

Dravet Syndrome causes multiple seizures and only 1 in 5 children make it to adolescence. It has been life changing for all his family, especially his siblings as he has spent more time in hospital since January than at home, with the care shared between his mum and dad. His body has been through so much trauma including over 1,000 seizures since January, but through all of this his mum Susan remains positive in all the hurdles George has faced. She is an inspiration to others with this condition.

George is a fighter and he continues to thrive receiving the love, care and support from his siblings and family, with a long road to recovery ahead of him."

This morning, our Client Services Manager Viv was delighted to to be one of three guest speakers at this month’s Ledbury Business Women LBW, alongside Mac from Mackenzie’s Jewellery and Ellen from .❤️

Viv enjoyed the opportunity to explain about life here at Deer Park Care Home, Ledbury, dispel some of the myths about what it's like to live in a care home, as well as a little bit about her journey into the care industry.

She was also delighted to announce that we will be hosting the next Ledbury Business Networking (LBW) meeting here at Deer Park on Wednesday 20th August, at the new time of 11.00am. This will be an informal garden gathering with tea, coffee and homemade cakes, at the usual £5 in cash per person, payable on the day. ☕🧁

All ladies who attend can look forward to great company in a relaxed setting and a complimentary goody bag!

On Friday 11th July our Administrator Sarah and a group of friends, joined hundreds of other female walkers to take part in St Michael's Hospice - Hereford , kindly sponsored by John Wood Tyres Ltd! 🌕🚶‍♀️

This popular annual event is now in its 17th year and is a female walk around Hereford adorned in pink. These intrepid group of ladies lit up the streets of Hereford with their sea of pink-ladies walking together for an evening of remembrance and fun. 💟

With music and a vibrant summer evening atmosphere, it was a truly magical experience for all those who took part. 🥰

Our Client Services Manager Viv has enjoyed putting the FUN into fundraising, having been invited to take part in the recent High Summer Fashion Show at Raft Clothing Company, in aid of local charity Megan Baker House. 👗🛍️ 👜

Throughout the evening, Viv and her fellow 'models' showcased some of the latest new additions to their collections at this fabulous local, independent boutique. 👠👠

The sell out was a phenomenal success and raised £500 for Megan Baker House, which will help the charity to continue to provide sessions for children and adults with motor disorders such as (DCD), , and , and other movement disorders. 💰 🎉

Yesterday our residents, their families and friends, along with staff and members of the wider community watched a nail-biting live screening of the ladies semi finals at on the terrace of our rear garden and with glorious sunshine it was the next best thing to actually being there! 🎾 🎥

We also learnt some fun Wimbledon facts, including:

Since 1990, Amanda Anisimova is the fourth player to defeat the world number one at Wimbledon en route to a maiden Grand Slam final after Zina Garrison (1990), Marion Bartoli (2007) and Sabine Lisicki (2013).

Our chefs treated us to freshly made cream teas and strawberry served with lashings of cream, whilst our very own Deer Park served up cloudy lemonade and , the official drink of Wimbledon. 🍰🍓 🍹

As a novel way to enjoy the , we think we aced it!

So why not join us here at Deer Park Care Home, Ledbury for 'Tea & Tennis on the Terrace’, a special live outdoor screening of the Ladies Semi Finals, this coming Thursday 10th July at 11.00am. 🎾

Throughout the morning we’ll be serving up some of the classic treats, including homemade and . 🍰 🫖 🍓 And of course you can’t have a Wimbledon themed event without bringing out the , so from midday our very own 'Deuce Bar' will be serving this quintessential British summer drink, along with non-alcoholic alternatives. 🍹🥤

Guests will also have the opportunity to ace our with a deviously delightful dose of grass-court trivia and test their net knowledge of the Championships. ❓ 🎾
