Solent Hydrotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre Ltd

Solent Hydrotherapy & Rehabilitation Centre Ltd Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapists for babies, children, young adults in your own home. As I endeavour to do with all my clients.

The SHARC Team:

My name is Louise Fawcett and I am a Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist.

I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2013 and have been a specialist in paediatrics for the last 7 years. I have extensive experience in a variety of community and acute settings covering all age ranges and feel this has provided me with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently assess and treat children with all physical needs. I have spent many years working in the NHS and since the start of 2020 I have worked at Treloar’s Special Education School with children with very complex additional needs and it has been educational, rewarding and fun. My specialist areas are paediatric neurology and developmental physiotherapy with a specialist interest in hydrotherapy. I am able to measure and prescribe DMO Lycra and can offer sports massage in addition to physiotherapy sessions. I have two girls of my own and one with a rheumatology condition which requires her to do regular physiotherapy, and we make this great fun! Socially I enjoy spending time at the beach, keeping active and taking our dog out with the family. I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, Health Care Professionals Council and Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists.

My name is Kaylie Bell and I am a Specialist Paediatric Physiotherapist.

I have been working in this specialist field for over 12 years. I qualified as a physiotherapist in 2007 after completing my initial junior rotations within the NHS, I was keen to follow my interest in supporting young people with a focus in both neurology and respiratory. My extensive clinical experience in a variety of settings including acute inpatients including NICU and maternity through to community, seeing young people of all ages in both the comfort of their own homes to their educational settings. After many years working in the NHS in 2019 I joined the team at Treloar’s Special Education School with children with very complex additional needs. The work I have been able to do at Treloar’s makes me feel even stronger that children, no matter how complex their physical disability has the right to access high-quality physiotherapy treatment and support to be the best that they can be. My special areas are paediatric neurology, respiratory, and hydrotherapy. I have completed the introduction to Bobath, Foundation level in hydrotherapy as well as being able to measure and prescribe DM Orthotics lycra. Having 3 children of my own and the lived experience of NICU with my 2nd child who continues to access the support of multiple NHS services, I am passionate to ensure that physiotherapy remains fun, engaging, and enjoyable for both the young person and their families. I am a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists, Health Care Professionals Council, and Association of Paediatric Chartered Physiotherapists.

🫁 Respiratory Physiotherapy: Supporting Healthy Lungs

Respiratory (chest) physiotherapy helps keep airways clear by loosening and draining mucus, making breathing easier and reducing the risk of chest infections.

⭐️ This can be used prophylactically (to prevent problems) or as part of treatment when there is a build-up of secretions.

Common techniques include:
➡️Postural Drainage - using body positions to help mucus drain.

➡️Percussion - gentle cupped-hand tapping to loosen mucus

⚠️ Treatment should only be carried out after training from a qualified physiotherapist

📌Important: This post is for information and education only.Always follow the personalised treatment advice given by your Hospital, Doctor or Physio team.

✨Submersion is an amazing skill for children✨

It requires a combination of skills, including:
⭐️Breath control: The ability to hold their breath and relax underwater
⭐️Water comfort: Feeling comfortable and secure in the water
⭐️Body awareness:Understanding how to position and move their body
⭐️Trust and communication: Trusting their physiotherapist and being able to communicate needs
⭐️Swimming skills: Basic swimming movements and techniques
⭐️Physical abilities:Sufficient strength, flexibility and mobility to both submerge and come up to a safe position again.

⭐️A swims weekly with our team and we are all very proud of A’s progress. She continued to work hard in this session and went on to play peek a boo in the water window with mum, her sister and Louise underwater and had a blast! ⭐️
