This Week at Hope Physiotherapy: We’re Focusing on Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

Wondering what a Shockwave Therapy session is like? Treatments last 5–10 minutes. The device can be a little noisy and may feel uncomfortable, but the intensity can be adjusted. Most people need 3–5 sessions, spaced 3–10 days apart, with relief often felt after the first session.

After Shockwave Therapy, you can go straight back to work, drive, and do light exercise. Some tenderness is normal, but paracetamol is fine to take. Avoid NSAIDs like ibuprofen and ice therapy, as they may reduce the treatment’s effectiveness. Relief often builds with each session.

Discover how shockwave can support your recovery, ease pain, and help you move with confidence.

This Week at Hope Physiotherapy: We’re Focusing on Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave is a highly effective treatment for plantar fasciitis - A painful condition affecting the plantar fascia, the thick band of tissue running along the bottom of your foot.

Common symptoms: Sharp heel pain, especially first thing in the morning or after periods of rest, Pain after prolonged standing or walking, Stiffness in the foot

Shockwave stimulates blood flow to the inflamed fascia, accelerates natural healing of micro-tears, breaks down scar tissue or calcifications in the fascia, stimulates collagen regeneration - strengthening the tissue, modulates nerve pain signals -reducing persistent heel pain

Discover how shockwave can support your recovery, ease pain, and help you move with confidence.

This Week at Hope Physiotherapy: We’re Focusing on Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

ESWT delivers high-energy acoustic (shock) waves to injured or painful tissue. These waves:
Stimulate blood flow and improve oxygenation to damaged tissue.
Trigger cellular repair by activating fibroblasts (cells that repair connective tissue).
Reduce pain signals by modulating nerve activity in the treated area.
Break down calcifications or scar tissue that can limit movement or cause persistent pain.
Because ESWT works at a cellular and tissue level, it can target both recent injuries and long-standing problems.
ESWT works for acute pain by accelerating the natural healing process and reducing inflammation early. It works for chronic pain by stimulating tissue repair, breaking down scar tissue, and reducing persistent nerve pain.

This Week at Hope Physiotherapy: We’re Focusing on Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy.

Shockwave Therapy is a non-invasive, non-surgical, drug free procedure for the treatment of tissue injuries, pain and bony conditions. A shockwave is an acoustic energy wave which is used to direct energy to the problem area via a handheld device.

The waves break down scar tissue and stimulate an inflammatory response – this increases blood flow and cell regeneration speeding up recovery and reducing pain.

Discover how shockwave can support your recovery, ease pain, and help you move with confidence.

This Week at Hope Physiotherapy: We’re Focusing on Hydrotherapy!

💧 Discover how hydrotherapy can support your recovery, ease pain, and help you move with confidence.

Hydrotherapy is a form of physiotherapy carried out in warm water, designed to help reduce pain, improve movement, and support recovery from injury or illness.

Unlike swimming or regular pool exercise, hydrotherapy sessions are led by a physiotherapist and tailored to your individual needs. The water supports your body, taking pressure off your joints and muscles, while gentle resistance helps you build strength safely.
