“Prominent ear surgery”, or otoplasty, is a procedure designed to reposition the ears closer to the head by reshaping the underlying cartilage.

Often performed under local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic depending on the patient, the aim is not to create a completely “flat” ear, but a natural contour and balance from both the front and side profile.

In this case, the post-operative result shows a more refined ear position whilst maintaining a natural shape and definition.

Scars are typically hidden behind the ear.

“Breast implants are not lifetime devices.”

A phrase that can sound alarming, but shouldn’t be misunderstood.

Breast implants are medical devices placed into living tissue. Over time, bodies change. Skin changes. Weight fluctuates. Pregnancy, ageing and gravity all play a role. Implants themselves also age.

That does not mean something has “gone wrong”.
It means long-term monitoring and realistic expectations matter.

Some patients may never require further surgery.
Others may eventually need revision procedures for reasons such as implant ageing, rupture, capsular contracture, position changes, or changes in personal preference over time.

Revision surgery is not automatically a complication or a failure.
Often, it is simply part of the long-term journey of having implants.

Understanding this before surgery is an important part of informed decision-making.

Upper and lower blepharoplasty, day of surgery vs six months.

This case highlights what careful peri-orbital surgery can achieve when the fundamentals are already favourable.

• Crisp upper eyelid definition following skin excision
• Brow position already appropriate, no brow lift required
• Lower eyelid rejuvenation through removal of excess skin and redistribution of existing fat

Rather than removing volume, the lower eyelid fat has been repositioned to address the tear trough, the classic under-eye crease.

This softens the transition between eyelid and cheek, improving contour without altering identity.

Congratulations to Mr Nikos Lymperopoulos and the outstanding Plastic Surgery team at Pinderfields Hospital — the latest winners of the Dr Kate Granger Compassionate Care Monthly Award.

The team includes Sarah Bamfield (MacMillan Breast Reconstruction Nurse Specialist), Kelly Chesham (Matron for Plastic Surgery) and Kate Bilbie (Senior Sister for the Plastic Surgery ward), who were nominated by a patient following her experience with the hospital’s specialist DIEP flap breast reconstruction service.

Pinderfields Hospital provides a highly specialised microsurgical breast reconstruction service for patients undergoing treatment following breast cancer and mastectomy. DIEP flap reconstruction is one of the most complex forms of reconstructive surgery offered within the NHS, requiring not only surgical expertise, but exceptional nursing care, support and teamwork throughout recovery.

The patient shared:

“I cannot commend Mr. Lymperopoulos and his team highly enough for their care, attention and professionalism throughout what is, essentially, quite a traumatic experience.

The DIEP flap surgery is more than just reconstructive for those of us who have been through breast cancer and subsequent mastectomy. It is psychologically restorative. A way to draw a line and move forward positively in life. I would like to thank the team for giving me that.

They all went above and beyond in their level of care and I am grateful to each and every one of them. They are a really great team and a credit to the hospital.”

The award was presented by Mr Mather, Head of Clinical Service.

A fantastic recognition of the compassionate, highly specialised care provided by the entire Plastic Surgery and Breast Reconstruction team at Pinderfields Hospital. Congratulations to all involved.

4 signs that your implant could be ruptured

⚠️ Educational medical content. Some viewers may not immediately recognise what is shown.

What you’re seeing here is a breast implant removed during a planned procedure. In this case, a rupture had already been identified on imaging.

On initial inspection, the implant appears intact. With gentle pressure, it becomes clear that the outer shell has failed.

Signs your implant could be ruptured:– pain or discomfort– increasing firmness– a sudden change in breast shape– a lump in the armpit (swollen gland)

The brown colour is betadine (antibiotic solution), used to assist safe removal.

Silicone implant gel is medical grade and considered safe. However, if the shell is compromised, it can be difficult to fully clear.

For this reason, many surgeons recommend regular checks once implants are over 10 years old.

Scars are what most people worry about.
Many patients are concerned about scars, the tell-tale sign of surgery.

But when done well, a scar can be almost imperceptible, even at 3 months. Better still, with appropriate scar treatment, I recommend Science of Skin, Lipoelastic silicone gel, and massage, this will continue to improve for up to 18 months and, whilst never invisible, can become almost impossible to spot.

Good surgery doesn’t just shape the result, it defines how well it heals.

That’s why choosing your surgeon is important.

Most people focus on the result.

Patients remember the process.

How they were listened to.
How clearly things were explained.
How natural the outcome feels afterwards.

That’s where the difference sits.

What is a facelift?

A question that’s often misunderstood.

A modern facelift focuses on repositioning deeper facial structures to restore natural contour, particularly through the jawline and cheeks.
Not just tightening skin, but addressing the underlying cause of facial ageing.

Skin laxity.
Jawline definition.
Midface descent.

Combining upper blepharoplasty with a midface lift: when does it make sense?

Both procedures address distinct anatomical regions, but their effects overlap in facial rejuvenation. This video explores the rationale for combining them, alongside situations where separation may be the more considered approach.

“A midface lift is not a full facelift.”

It targets a very specific area, the cheeks and under-eye region, where early changes tend to show.

No dramatic pulling.
No “operated” look.

Just a subtle reset of what time has shifted.

If you’ve heard it described as extreme, it’s likely being confused with something else.
