A Care Plan is a vital part of dementia care. It sets out how your loved one wishes to be supported, their daily needs, and how carers and family members should provide that care.

A care plan can include two key parts:
1️⃣ Daily routine: mealtimes, medication, activities, and rest.
2️⃣ Comprehensive care plan: a document that gathers all medical details, habits, memories, preferences, and individual needs in one place – ensuring everyone involved in care is informed and consistent.

A good care plan goes beyond medical needs. It is built on person-centred care, which puts the individual’s personality, memories, and wishes at the heart of support. This helps improve quality of life and strengthens emotional bonds between the person, their family, and their carer.

At Home Instead Central Leeds, our Care Professionals are specially trained in dementia care to deliver the highest quality and most compassionate support at home. If you are looking for a trusted way to care for your loved one, we are here to help.

When a grandparent is living with dementia, it can be confusing and emotional for younger family members. But with the right support, children can still enjoy meaningful moments with the people they love.

Here are a few simple ways to help:

Use honest, age appropriate language

Focus on shared activities like looking at photos or reading together

Reassure them it's the condition that's changing - not the person they love

Celebrate the little moments of joy, a smile, a song, a hug

Talking openly helps children stay connected and builds empathy for life.
At Home Instead Central Leeds, our professional guidance helps families support children and foster meaningful connections with their elders.

Focusing on quality of life is essential at every stage of dementia, as many aspects of the condition can be unpredictable. Studies show that depression and anxiety are highly prevalent, so it’s vital to ensure the person feels safe, comfortable, and supported. In the later stages, this may include pain management, therapy for anxiety and depression, maintaining regular contact with family, and continuing enjoyable activities such as painting or knitting. The ultimate goal is to create a dignified and manageable experience for both the person and their loved ones.

As dementia progresses, care must adapt to new needs – from healthy meals and mobility support to safety adjustments at home and access to healthcare specialists. While this journey can be challenging, with proper planning and supportive services it becomes more manageable. It’s also important for caregivers to remember their own need for rest and support.

At Home Instead Central Leeds, we are committed to providing person-centred, tailored care that enables older adults to live with dignity, safety, and comfort in their own homes. If you or your loved one need support, our team is here to guide you every step of the way.

Sarcopenia is the gradual loss of muscle mass and strength, which can lead to reduced mobility, impaired balance, and an increased risk of falls and fractures.

Scientifically proven strategies to prevent and slow sarcopenia:

🔹️Adequate protein intake: 1–1.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily, from sources such as fish, chicken, eggs, dairy, and legumes

🔹️Resistance and strength training: Exercises with light weights, resistance bands, or bodyweight movements like squats

🔹️Regular physical activity: Daily walking, stretching, and light exercises

🔹️Vitamin D and sunlight: Supplements if deficient, along with sun exposure

🔹️Balanced diet: Fruits, vegetables, and sources of omega-3 fatty acids

With proper nutrition and regular activity, older adults can maintain stronger muscles, better balance, and greater independence in daily life.

At Home Instead Central Leeds, our trained caregivers provide a wide range of specialized and supportive services, always by your side to ensure the health and comfort of your loved ones. Get in touch with us for more information and personalized advice.

Caring for your parents is one of life’s most important responsibilities. It’s natural to feel uncertain at the beginning and not know where to start.
First and foremost, avoid sudden and thoughtless decisions.
Take time to gather information and engage in calm, ongoing conversations with your parents.
Choose care solutions that respect their independence—these are easier to accept and help preserve dignity.

For example, if cooking is physically challenging, meal preparation services allow them to stay active without strain.
At the beginning, even small acts of support from trusted friends or neighbors can provide a gentle introduction to receiving help.

At Home Instead Central Leeds, we are here with tailored strategies to make this transition smooth and respectful, while safeguarding your parents’ independence and quality of life.

You can contact us anytime for professional guidance and support.
