Hello, this is my newly created page for my private practice in Alwoodley, Leeds. I offer Relational and Integrative Psychotherapy.
There can be a lot of confusion about the differences between psychotherapy and counselling. While counselling can be quite brief and problem-focused, I tend to offer longer-term work, aiming to grow awareness of the challenges and obstacles to authentic and spontaneous connection with other people. When I work , I prioritise awareness of our therapeutic relationship, as this can show some of the features and issues that might be arising elsewhere in your life.
Integrative sounds a bit of a jargon word- in my understanding it means exploring, connecting and hopefully accepting the different parts of our whole self. Our families, society and culture don't always help us to do this; so we get used to presenting only part of ourselves. Psychotherapy can help in this journey of unfolding and becoming. It's why I chose the name Archipelago for my practice: the image of diverse semi-connected land, forming a beautiful, expansive landscape, rather than the feeling of being "stuck" on one island.
If this sounds like something that might want to explore, drop me a line and we can arrange to meet for a taster session (at a reduced rate of £10).
