So what was this all about?

Primarily raising funds for the fantastic Millie Wright Children's Charity who have been such an amazing support to as we’ve travelled our son’s transplant journey. We’d love to raise even more for them if we can- give their page a like and follow, and donate here if you can - https://www.justgiving.com/page/adam-griffiths-1687470299302

But why 121km? Why 7 days?

121 represents the number of CHILDREN in the UK RIGHT NOW waiting for a chance at life, on the transplant list. Many need hearts, lungs, things that sadly only come from one source but did you know you can donate a kidney or part of your liver and join the elite club of LIVING DONORS? Blood, plasma, blood stem cells, whether you know the recipient or want to make an altuisitic donation - see the NHS Blood and Transplant page and website for how you can get involved.

7 is the number of days a week our superhero son had peritoneal dialysis before his life saving transplant. It’s considered a kidney replacement. Without dialysis he would have died. 12 hours a day. Every. Single. Day. This is what transplant has given him back. His life. And hopefully a chance at a normal childhood.

Adam and I are so grateful for the support we’ve had this week, and hope that if we’ve made 1 person aware of donation and of the charity we’ve done what he set out to do. 💗

🥾🥾Today’s the day! Just over 16km to go and my challenge will be completed. 121km in 7 days! I think we may well have broken the dog….🥾🥾

I’ll be walking in remembrance today, for all of those transplant children for whom the fight was simply too big. For Millie. For Sarah. For Ava. For Brooke. For you all. 👼🏼👼🏼👼🏼

The Millie Wright Children's Charity isn’t just there for those of us who are still fighting, but for parents who have faced their worst nightmares and had to say goodbye to their children. They offer support, friendship, and much much more to parents and families in the most devastating circumstances.

To all of the families who’s children are no longer earthbound, we see you. Let’s bring this home and celebrate each of their lives with a wave of light tonight. 8pm. Light a candle, share the love, and share whatever you can in our final push to raise much needed funds for this amazing charity. We’ll definitely be celebrating this incredible achievement and all of these incredible children this evening 💚❤️💙

It’s a marathon not a sprint… well, almost 3 actually 😂, and I’ve completed 2 since Saturday!

Joking aside, a long term hospital stay feels like a marathon. No light at the end of the tunnel to keep you going, just day after day of trying to keep yourself going when you’re running on empty. Trying to keep your world turning, your home running, your life outside the hospital going. All whilst advocating for your child 24/7. It can all be overwhelming. And on top of that, your child has 1 person to keep them comforted, entertained and fed. You.

How does The Millie Wright Children's Charity help? Amongst a hundred other things:

-Saturday night pizza for all families facing the weekend in hospital. 🍕A huge mental health boost, especially when accompanied by a chat with Nige, Ceri and the other volunteers ❤️
-Stocking the parent kitchen with ambient and fresh food to keep you going when you haven’t the option of leaving. 🍎🍌☕️🍵
-Providing change for laundry! A lifeline when your pjs have been hanging around longer than the parent beds 😂 🎽
-Stocking pjs, hygeine supplies and toiletries on the ward for emergency admissions when you’ve nothing with you. 🪥🧴🩲
-Recruiting a support worker to help provide practical support for parents on the ward!

This is why we’re walking!!

Please share anything you can, you can sponsor my pain here! https://www.justgiving.com/page/adam-griffiths-1687470299302

Today has been a tough one! Legs are aching, fatigue is setting in. We’re half way through my challenge to walk 121km in a week, and 64km kicked! Each km I tick is a nod to a child on the transplant list in the UK. I admit, this is tough!

Know what’s tougher? Being a chronic parent on a ward with no support. Being a child on that transplant list. Waiting for the call that could change your child’s life.

Know who’s working to help? The Millie Wright Children's Charity.

Know why we’re doing this? TO RAISE LOADS OF CASH so they can keep on helping other families like mine in hospital.

If you haven’t already, please share any spare - money, shares, organs - seriously, if you haven’t already, please think about organ donation. It changes lives.

You can donate here ❤️ https://www.justgiving.com/page/adam-griffiths-1687470299302

Why is Adam walking? Because Ceri and Nige have created a legacy of support for other families living what they lived through. In Millie’s name. The Millie Wright Children's Charity IS A LIFELINE.

Please sponsor Adam, and help us hit the £2k we’re hoping to raise, anything you can spare! We’ll share more on Adam’s challeng later, but please, read Ceri’s words, and help us give back to their incredible charity https://www.justgiving.com/page/adam-griffiths-1687470299302
