Always gold standard policies , and procedures .
Evidence based medicine and not with standing NICE guidelines and clinical governance from the Royal college of Podiatry and
HCPC
( Health care professionals council )

What does this mean for you as a patient ?
It means accountability.

It means reassurance that we are qualified to a high level and we are registered and insured .
It means that’s we are accountable and recognised in law and by other health care professionals. It means we are qualified in a recognised and protected professional title . Minimal standard a degree in podiatry or podiatric medicine.
It means further study to specialise in areas of podiatry such as MSK , nail surgery , dermatology, rheumatology etc
So we study continuously to strive to always be the best we can .
CPD or continuing professional development is essential to keeping our registration and more importantly you safe .
Always look for HCPC registered for health care professionals . They are the register for 14 different health care professionals including podiatry and physiotherapy .
Foot health practitioners are NOT on this register and their qualifications are not recognised on this register , or by other health care professionals. Their qualifications are not regulated either .
So for registered and regulated healthcare call us on Leeds 2320060

Let’s talk Chillblains 🥶

Chillblains are small, painful swellings or lesions that occur on the skin, typically on the hands and feet, in response to cold temperatures. They can be itchy, red, and tender, and may blister or ulcerate in severe cases.

Chillblains are caused by:
- *Poor blood circulation*: Reduced blood flow to the extremities can make them more susceptible to cold temperatures.
- *Cold temperatures*: Prolonged exposure to cold can cause blood vessels to constrict, leading to tissue damage.
- *Humidity*: High humidity can exacerbate the condition.
- *Genetic predisposition*: Some people may be more prone to developing chillblains due to their genetic makeup such as having vascular disease and circulatory disorders . Varicose veins etc

Symptoms of chillblains can include:
- *Redness and swelling*: Affected areas may become red, swollen, and painful.
- *Itching and burning*: Chillblains can cause intense itching and burning sensations.
- *Blisters or ulcers*: In severe cases, blisters or ulcers may form.

To prevent or manage chillblains, you can try:
- *Wearing warm clothing*: Keep your hands and feet warm and dry.
- *Avoiding sudden temperature changes*: Gradually warm up cold extremities to prevent damage.
- *Improving circulation*: Engage in physical activity and avoid smoking to improve blood flow.

If you experience severe or persistent symptoms, it's best to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and treatment [1].
HOWEVER, preventive measures can be taken , and if you get those pesky painful or itchy lesions we have a number of treatment modalities to help including class 4 medical grade lasers which are painless but an amazing state of the art treatment. Evidence based and professional care and advice.

A very often answered question in clinic is regarding FHPS ( Foot health practitioners) and why they are generally much easier and cheaper to access for routine foot care .
Here is a reply we standardised .
Podiatrists are highly skilled and trained CLINICIANS. They train for YEARS as an undergraduate in podiatry or podiatric medicine as minimal training to acquire a degree and qualifications. They don’t just do a course .
So if you have a complex foot health issue a podiatrist is your go to health care professional.

One of the most common questions we are asked is
“ How much JUST to cut my toe nails ?”
Our reply is our routine podiatry appointment are £ fee .
Sometimes … the reply is “ what that’s a lot JUST to cut my nails !”
We then explain how their age , pharmacology ( medicines ) and underlying health conditions can affect the whole of the lower limb including nails . We discuss what happens at each visit and why the fee is fair . We explain how we prevent serious complications and help keep their mobility and independence . # #
So please if you have elderly or disabled parents or relatives, check their feet 👣. If they struggle to walk from arthritis etc they may not be able to cut their own nails or their sight may also be impaired and affecting how well they can if at all .
