Two special gifts made up!

Frankincense & bergamot face oils…in a recyclable box packaged snuggly in tissue paper, calendula petals and a couple of drops of rose essential oil to hit the nose on opening.

Frankincense is derived from tree resin. It’s contains powerful anti-ageing compounds and is wonderfully antioxidant to the skin.

As one of the three gifts bought to baby Jesus by the three wise men, these frankincense-containing face oils make lovely Christmas gifts 🎄

Thanks for your support

I really enjoy working with people; helping them get back to feeling like their old self.

Medicine encompasses so many parts that are easily overlooked these days in a modern, busy world.

💤 Sleep is needed for new white blood cell to be made to fight infections, the brain cleans itself overnight for better cognitive functioning…and so much more.

🍲 Food doesn’t just provide energy for us to move and think. It supplies information (nutrients) for for our body to work optimally. Its purpose is similar to both a charger (energy) and SIM card (information to operate) needed for a mobile phone.

⛰️ Managing stress in our lives. Our stress hormones don’t have an “off switch”. As long as we perceive a threat - either think about a threat - or actually experience the threat, our body behaves in the same way. Breathing techniques and daily nature walk/run can help us unwind from a challenging day by balancing the nervous system.

I work with a wide range of chronic health challenges. Some examples include menopause, autoimmunity, digestive issues, mood imbalances, inflammatory skin conditions and reproductive issues.

If you’d like to know more about herbal medicine - and a holistic medicine approach, I’d love to hear from you. FAQs on my website answer common questions that you may have, too!

Thanks to everyone who came to make a fire cider tonic with me this morning.

Fire cider is a sweet, sour, tangy and hot infused vinegar that has immune supporting and antiviral properties.

Chilli, garlic, thyme, onion, rose hips, ginger, bay, lemon are all wonderful plant allies that can help us stay well in winter…along with restorative sleep and nourishing food.

Keep track of how long you infuse the scotch bonnet for, ladies!

I’m looking forward to my upcoming fire cider workshop this weekend.

Winter is getting closer and calls for more self-care over the colder months. Shorter days mean less natural resources such as daylight and sunshine which regulate our sleep-wake cycle and provide vitamin D respectively.

Along with restorative sleep, nutrient-dense meals and getting outside in the natural daylight - nourishing herbal preparations can also support our health during winter.

Fire cider is a warming, antiviral, immune-enhancing tonic taken daily over winter to help ward off coughs and colds.

Today, I’m packing up goody bags for the lovely ladies who’ll be making their own fire ciders with me on Sunday. They contain a few herbal recipes to help them stay well this winter and a bottle of spiced elderberry syrup for extra measure!

What do you do to for extra care and nourishment during the winter months?

Stay cosy everyone!

What a difference a few days make!

This St John’s Wort oil has turned from a sunny yellow to a glorious red after a few hot days in Leeds.

After a few weeks, I’ll strain off the plant material and have a St John’s Wort oil at the ready to make antiviral + wound-healing + pain-relieving salves and creams with.

Thank you, sun 🌞 🙏

Often, the first step of healing is understanding what changes have likely occurred in the body - and then taking steps to address all the factors that may have contributed to the imbalance. IBS is multifactorial and something I work with very frequently with success. If you have IBS, or know someone with IBS, I wrote an article summarising what it is, if you’d like to read more about it.

You can find the article on my website here https://katgreen-herbalist.co.uk/articles/irritable-bowel-syndrome

I offer one-on-one, confidential consultations (1.5 hours) where I’ll take a full medical history and ask questions to see what might be going on for you. Feel free to get in touch to arrange a 15 minute discovery call to see if the herbal approach is for you.

Marshmallow is one if my favourite plants.

If this plant was a person, her personality traits would no doubt be: dutiful, reliable, gentle, comforting, and an excellent mediator.

Her root and leaf contain mucilage, that when combined with water, become viscous or syrupy. This quality is great for treating inflamed or irritated surfaces such as:

🌱 Eczema flares or similar (creates a second skin for protection)
🌱 IBS or inflammatory bowel disease (irritated gut linings)
🌱 Dry coughs (calms the nervous system)

Did you know? Mallow root extract was once used to make the sweet treat; marshmallows which is where the name originates from!

If you think mallow might be able to help you, I offer a 15 minute discovery call to see if herbal medicine is for you.

I’ve popped St John’s Wort flowers into oil. Soon the oil will turn a glorious red colour…and will be ready to use for many different skin-related issues.

Much of the research on St John’s Wort has been in the context of depression. Though, it’s very useful topically because it’s:

🌱 Anti-inflammatory and wound-healing. Great for minor cuts, burns or grazes

🌱Active against viruses. Viruses such as shingles (herpes zoster), cold sores (herpes simplex) hibernate in nerve tissue and our immune systems continually keep them in check. Though they can reactivate, particularly in times of stress, or when immune system function is suboptimal.

🌱 Slightly analgesic. Helps relieve nerve pain associated with shingles or similar

St John’s Wort is the herb of the summer sun.

Topically, it has both antiviral and pain-relieving properties which is why herbalists often use it for shingles.

I’m steeping the golden yellow flowers in oil which will produce a deep red oil ready to make salves with.

The rest of the flowers are going into the dehydrator to be stored for later use.

Did you know St John’s Wort, gets it Latin name, Hypericum perforatum, from the tiny repetitive holes you can see on the underside of its leaf?

Beautiful, golden calendula flowers!

I’m infusing calendula petals in water for my natural skincare workshop tomorrow . We’ll be making a cream with this deep calendula infusion

It is a triple infusion so the final cream should have a wonderful yellow hue packed with carotenoids zeaxanthin and lutein; powerful antioxidants beneficial for our skin.

Looking forward to making this cream tomorrow and seeing everyone!
