Walton Manor – Mother’s Day Preparations

In the lead up to Mother’s Day, our residents spent some lovely time together getting creative and sharing memories.

We painted our own Mother’s Day banner to decorate the home and created a Memory Tree, where residents added their favourite gifts, special traditions and things they loved doing on Mother’s Day over the years.

The activity sparked some beautiful conversations and stories about family, celebrations and treasured moments from the past.

It was a wonderful way to reflect, reminisce and celebrate the many special memories connected to Mother’s Day. 💐💛

Walton Manor – Nutrition & Hydration Week

As part of Nutrition & Hydration Week, our residents and visiting family members took part in a fun blind taste test to see if they could tell the difference between regular tea and coffee and decaffeinated options.

Participants sampled two drinks and shared their thoughts on which they preferred and which they believed contained caffeine. It sparked lots of laughter, conversation and a little friendly debate!

The activity forms part of our exploration of the “Decaf by Default” approach, which research suggests may support bladder health and potentially reduce falls risk, while always maintaining resident choice.

A big thank you to everyone who took part — it was a lovely way to combine learning, conversation and a cup of tea together. ☕💛

Enjoying the Garden at Walton Manor 🌿🐦

With the recent change in the weather, our residents have been making the most of some time in the garden this week.

We’ve put up our new bird feeders and made sure they’re well stocked for our feathered visitors. Residents have really enjoyed watching the birds come and go throughout the day.

We also had some fun using a bird identification app to help us discover which breeds are visiting our garden. It sparked lots of lovely conversations as we looked at the different colours, sounds and names of the birds we spotted.

It’s been a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors and stay connected with nature. 🌼🐦

A Musical Visit at Walton Manor 🎸

This week at Walton Manor we were delighted to welcome back the lovely Steve the Guitar Man, whose monthly visits are always a firm favourite with our residents.

Music has a wonderful way of bringing people together, and sessions like these help support memory, mood, and social connection. Residents enjoyed singing along to familiar songs, tapping along to the rhythm and sharing smiles and conversation with one another.

For many people, especially those living with dementia, music can unlock memories and emotions that words sometimes can’t reach. It’s always lovely to see residents relaxing, joining in and enjoying the moment together.

We’re already looking forward to Steve’s next visit! 🎶💛

Walton Manor Update 💛

Some of you may have noticed that our page has been a little quieter recently, and we just wanted to reassure families and friends that life at Walton Manor continues as normal.

Following Jayne’s retirement, we are currently expanding our Activity and Wellbeing team. We have welcomed another Activities Coordinator and are still recruiting to add to our fabulous team. During this time our social media updates have slowed slightly, but please be assured that activities and wellbeing sessions continue to take place daily and are planned and documented as part of our regular programme.

Our focus, as always, is on ensuring residents enjoy meaningful activities, companionship and opportunities to stay engaged.

We look forward to sharing more of these moments with you again soon. Thank you for your continued support and interest in life here at Walton Manor.

🌿 Could You Spare a Little Time to Make a Big Difference? – Walton Manor 🌿

At Walton Manor, many of our residents are living with dementia and benefit enormously from gentle companionship, familiar faces and simple shared moments.

We are currently looking for kind, patient volunteers who would like to spend time with our residents — whether that’s:

💛 Sitting and chatting
📖 Reading a newspaper or short story
🎵 Listening to music together
🫖 Sharing a cup of tea
🎨 Supporting simple crafts
🌸 Accompanying short garden walks

You don’t need any special experience — just warmth, empathy and a little time.

For our residents, a calm presence and a friendly smile can mean everything.

Volunteering at Walton isn’t just about running activities and more about being alongside someone — helping them feel safe, valued and connected.

If you (or someone you know) would like to find out more, please get in touch via message or call the home directly.

We’ve had a wonderful day here at Walton Manor.

Chinese New Year 🇨🇳
Our home was beautifully decorated with crafts made by our talented residents, and we enjoyed learning all about the Lunar New Year and welcoming the Year of the Horse.
Fortune cookies were a big hit — especially for the resident whose message read, “Everybody knows you are the best!” 😊

Interactive games were played, with balloon popping proving a firm favourite 🎈.

We also enjoyed a lovely “Pass the Ball” social game, sharing stories and laughs while getting to know each other even more — finishing the day perfectly with tea and biscuits. ☕🍪
