The Rehab Space

The Rehab Space I help women with Long COVID achieve symptom relief and feel like themselves again. Created for people with long COVID, by someone with long COVID.

We offer online courses, workshops and coaching to help people manage their syptoms. With over 2 years NHS long COVID clinic experience, over 10 years NHS physiotherapy experience, and living with long COVID since March 2020, our founder Di, has created a course she believes in.

Along the journey with Long COVID we all learn valuable tools and lessons to help support and manage our symptoms.

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone else struggling with Long COVID that has helped you the most?

My one piece of advice would be to stay positive, especially when it's difficult and listen to your body.
... although maybe that's two pieces of advice...๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜‚

There are so many Long COVID symptoms, in fact, over 200 of them!

Some are more usual, or to be expected after a virus, and others are completely random.

I'd love to know, what is the weirdest symptom that you attribute to your Long COVID?

We're all on this journey together!

And I'd love to know, when did you get Long COVID?

I first caught Covid-19 and developed Long COVID in March 2020.

I usually wouldn't take note of exact dates but it was 22nd March, because the following day my flatmate popped her head around the door to tell me Bojo had announced a national lockdown.

I'm very much hoping this is/ was a once in a lifetime occurrence, but the craziness of the whole situation made it a difficult date to forget.

Being passed meals through my door and staying in my room, lying on my bed in isolation for 2 whole weeks before I was allowed to go outside and breathe fresh air.

The fear and uncertainty about a new virus tearing its way through Europe, the country going into lockdown, my whole team going down with it, and feeling terrified for my patients.

Covid and Long COVID is absolutely not over but I'm grateful to not be in that situation again.

What's your story?

October is dysautonomia awareness month ๐ŸŽ‰

But WHAT IS dysautonomia? ๐Ÿค”

And why does it matter if you have Long COVID?

Dysautonomia affects something we call the autonomic nervous system.
This system is responsible for regulating involuntary functions like heart rate and digestion.

Symptoms can include, but are by no means limited to:

โฉRapid heart rate

๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ Dizziness

๐Ÿฅต Temperature dysregulation

๐Ÿซ  Fainting

๐Ÿ˜Ÿ Gastro-intestinal symptoms

๐Ÿ˜ถโ€๐ŸŒซ๏ธ Brain fog

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Exercise intolerance

And it can be your primary diagnosis, or secondary to other conditions. For example, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is a type of dysautonomia.

Many people with Long COVID experience symptoms of dysautonomia and improving your management of this can often help your recovery.

If you found this useful, save for later and let me know in the comments if you struggle with symptoms of dysautonomia

Not sure if you have Long COVID? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Many people experience lingering symptoms long after the initial infection, often without realising until their symptoms stop them from being able to do more.

I've even had patients before who didn't even know they'd had Covid but found out when they presented with Long COVID and had a positive antibody test!

If you're experiencing any of these common symptoms, you might be dealing with Long COVID:

๐Ÿ˜ด Fatigue โ€“ Feeling constantly drained, even after resting. Everyday tasks can feel like a marathon.

๐Ÿ˜ถโ€๐ŸŒซ๏ธ Brain Fog โ€“ Struggling to think clearly, focus, or remember things. This mental cloudiness can make even simple tasks difficult.

๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ Breathlessness โ€“ Shortness of breath during mild activities, or sometimes even while sitting still.

๐Ÿ’“ Heart Palpitations โ€“ Irregular or rapid heartbeat that can make you feel anxious or uncomfortable.

๐Ÿฆต Joint and Muscle Pain โ€“ Aches and stiffness that limit your movement and make physical activities harder.

๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ Sleep Disturbances โ€“ Difficulty falling or staying asleep, or waking up feeling unrested despite getting enough hours in bed.

๐Ÿ˜” Anxiety & Depression โ€“ The emotional impact of Long COVID is real. Anxiety, sadness, and a sense of hopelessness often accompany physical symptoms.

These symptoms can make it hard to get back to your normal routine, but you're not alone.

Recognising the signs is the first step toward recovery ๐Ÿ’›

What do you find yourself doing the most when you're struggling?

I'm a plan canceller and napper. Neither of which was ever a thing before I got Long COVID. Now I don't know what I'd do without them!

Let me know what you do most frequently in the comments below, I'd love to know! ๐Ÿ‘‡

Long COVID can be SO exhausting! The endless ups and downs, 1 step forward, 2 steps back ๐Ÿ‘ฃ

If you have Long COVID it's important to recognise that small wins over time lead to big progress.

When you're in the thick of it and struggling this can be hard to see.

Try to listen to your body's signals, it's OK to take more breaks than you used to.

Rest is a form of progress when you are healing.

Celebrate the small wins, no matter how trivial. They all add up and remind you of your strength.

If you're on this journey too, drop a ๐Ÿ’š below and share your small win today.

Let's support each other!
