As National Apprenticeship Week draws to a close, we’d like to recognise the fantastic contribution our apprentices make to our hospital every day.

We recently spoke with Elizabeth, our Director of Clinical Services, about the important role apprenticeships play in creating opportunities to grow, build confidence and support patient-centred care.

Here at Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital, apprenticeships help people develop valuable skills while strengthening the high-quality care we provide to our community.

Meet Andrei, one of our amazing Trainee Operating Department Practitioners (ODP), who is qualifying this September!

The ODP role had always interested Andrei because of the opportunity to work across different areas of the operating department. With encouragement from colleagues, who told him he’d make a great ODP, and support from his manager, he applied for the apprenticeship through Nuffield Health Leeds Hospital.

Now in his final year, Andrei says:

“I just want to say thank you to my team and management. They’ve been fantastic in teaching me, advising me and preparing me for my clinical career.”

We’re so proud to support apprentices as they grow, learn and build their futures with us.

Happy National Apprenticeship Week! 🌟

Today, we’re celebrating Laurence! From his start at our Wakefield site in 2015 to his current role as Senior Physio at Leeds Hospital, Laurence has always been dedicated to his patients.

But he didn't stop there. To better support his colleagues and students, Laurence took on a Level 4 Apprenticeship. It’s given him a "structured and measured approach" to mentoring, ensuring our next generation of physiotherapists gets the best possible guidance. 🤝

We love seeing our team grow and take on new challenges. Well done, Laurence!

It’s National Apprenticeship Week, and we're so proud of what our team can achieve! 🎊

Meet Natalie, an Outpatients Staff Nurse at our Leeds Hospital. Natalie joined us without formal nursing qualifications, but she had the passion to make a difference. Through our apprenticeship program, she was able to train on the job, becoming a Nurse Associate in 2020 and now officially qualifying as a Registered Nurse. 👩‍⚕️

At 43, Natalie shows that apprenticeships are for anyone, in any walk of life. They are a way to take your existing experience and build a brand-new career path without having to hit "pause" on your life.
