Question of the week. ❓ Can flat feet be corrected?

Flat feet, also known as fallen arche, can sometimes be improved, depending on the cause. In many cases, the goal isn’t to fully “fix” the arch but to reduce pain, improve alignment, and restore comfortable movement.

For flexible flat feet, treatments like custom orthotics, supportive footwear, stretching, and strengthening exercises can make a huge difference. Children may naturally develop stronger arches over time, but some may still benefit from early support or a gait assessment.

When flat feet are caused by injury, tendon issues, or arthritis, treatment focuses on managing symptoms and preventing further problems. Surgery is only considered when conservative options haven’t worked and symptoms remain severe.

With the right podiatry care, most people experience significant relief, better stability, and improved daily function, even if the arch doesn’t fully return.

Did you know there’s really no such thing as a ‘normal’ foot?

‘Normal’ can mean different things in different contexts: it can be average, typical, or healthy, but when it comes to foot posture, it’s just a guideline. Foot studies use scores like the Foot Posture Index (FPI 0–+6) to define what’s considered neutral, but that doesn’t mean your feet need to match that exactly.

What matters most is how your feet feel. If you notice discomfort, pain, or something that just doesn’t feel right, get it checked. You know your feet better than anyone, and they deserve attention.

Take care of your feet, they carry you through everything! 🦶💛

Question of the week. ❓
Here is the difference between seeing a GP or going directly to a Podiatrist.
A GP provides the initial diagnosis and basic treatment plan. However, you would see a Podiatrist if:

👣 Your symptoms persist despite following the GP's advice on rest, pain relief, and stretching for several weeks.

👣 You require a detailed assessment of your foot's biomechanics, gait, and walking pattern.

👣 You need custom-made or specialised orthotics (insoles) or night splints to correct foot function and relieve stress on the fascia.

You don't need a referral from your doctor; just speak to our friendly team and get an appointment within the week!
