The Yorkshire Urology Group was set up by Mr Ased Ali who is a Consultant Urologist at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals with specialist interests in cystitis, urinary tract infection, incontinence and bladder reconstruction. Mr Ali is heavily involved in research, leading regionally on multiple clinical trials for patients with troublesome bladder conditions and is very keen for patients to have access to
the latest treatments and technologies available for bladder problems. This was the main driver for setting up the Yorkshire Urology Group. Mr Ali qualified from The University of Manchester, with subsequent general surgical training in the Northwest of England and Higher Urological training in Yorkshire and Northeast of England. He undertook sub-specialty training in Female Urology and Uro-gynaecology at Duke University, North Carolina, USA and Centre for Pelvic floor at University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada. His Royal College of Surgeons approved fellowship in Female Urology and Reconstructive Surgery was carried out at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne. Mr Ali is dual trained as both a surgeon (awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons, FRCS) and as a scientist (awarded an immunology doctorate, PhD). His first involvement with the charity and foundation was a result of receiving funding from it for research into recurrent cystitis and painful bladder syndrome. Mr Ali has received research funding from multiple other organisations including the Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust, National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and Wellbeing of Women. His work is regularly presented at The European Association of Urology for which he has won multiple awards and he has ongoing international collaborations investigating bladder conditions.
