Accelerated Surgical Care HealthTech Research Centre

Accelerated Surgical Care HealthTech Research Centre We are focused on developing novel solutions for colorectal, vascular, liver/pancreas and neurosurgery

The Surgical MedTech Cooperative will learn from the experiences of the Colorectal Therapies Healthcare Technology Cooperative and adapt its successful strategies to build a new technology network, adding Vascular and Hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) and Neurosurgery to its colorectal theme. These areas of surgery all face substantial challenges, with many people suffering from diseases that will be

nefit from technological innovation. We will extend the national reach of the Cooperative and positively impact on the lives of more patients. We will work closely with all people involved in surgical care. We will undertake a variety of activities to identify new areas in need of innovation, support research to address clinical problems, and provide a resource for evaluating new surgical technologies within the wider context of the NHS. Uniquely, we will provide industry with a means for safely evaluating their products through a structured Surgical Test Bed, and build a programme to develop the next generation of Young Innovators interested in Surgical Technologies.

Have your say on the future of research into endoscopies
Together, we can make change happen.

Did you know that more than 2.5 million gastrointestinal endoscopies are performed in the UK every year? These important tests are used to find out what is causing digestive symptoms and conditions, but could they be improved?

If you or a loved one has had an endoscopy, or if you’re a healthcare professional with experience in this area, Guts UK Charity invite you to take part in their Priority Setting Partnership (PSP) and help them identify how endoscopy procedures could be made better in the future.

Cardiovascular disease: new ways to detect risk and improve outcomes

Cardiovascular disease (conditions affecting the heart or blood vessels) accounts for around 1 in 4 deaths in the UK each year.

A person’s risk of cardiovascular disease depends on their blood pressure, weight, cholesterol, smoking status, family history, and other factors. Identifying an individual’s risk allows preventative measures, such as changes in lifestyle or taking medicines, to reduce risk and improve health outcomes.

An assessment of cardiovascular risk is part of routine care, during the NHS Health Check, for example, but more can be done to optimise the identification of risk for the future. Join this webinar to learn about NIHR research on 3 promising new ways to identify people at risk of heart and circulation problems using information from clinical care that could enable intervention at an earlier stage leading to improved outcomes. Presentations will be followed by a Q&A session.

Opportunity from Andrew Yiu and Katie Simister
Digital Surgery Collaborative & Imperial College London

We are writing to invite you to take part in a 30-minute interview on ‘Patient and public views on routine surgical video recording’, conducted over Microsoft Teams or over the phone. We have secured funding to reimburse you for your time.

We are interested in exploring your views on patient consent for surgical video recording, and its further use for surgical quality assurance, education, training, and research (including for creating new digital technologies such as artificial intelligence-based tools). This will build upon some of the ideas within the questionnaire you completed in September. We hope that the results of this study will allow us to develop standards for consenting patients in the future and will direct ongoing research into surgical video use.

Your contribution is greatly valued and will provide a critically important insight to the project. Interviews will be audio recorded for transcription and analysis purposes but will be fully anonymised. After this has been completed, the recording will be deleted, and it will no longer be possible to withdraw from this study. Interviews will last for a maximum of 30-minutes, and you will be reimbursed £17.50 for your time.

We are also looking for public/patient representatives to be involved in the planning, design, and delivery of our surgical video research. If this interests you, please let us know and we would be happy to discuss a role as a co-applicant within our research group.

Please use the link below to book an interview slot, and do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions.

Thank you for signing up to participate in this 30 minute interview for our project aiming to establishing patient priorities in the implementation of routine surgical video recording. The interview will consist of approximately 10 questions. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any
