Our long-serving GP Partner, Dr Ellis Rickwood, will retire at the end of September 2025.
Dr Rickwood joined Crossley Street Surgery as a Partner in the practice back in 1996, and took over from Dr Hall as Senior Partner in 2020.
Over the course of his 29 years’ service to the community, Dr Rickwood has provided expert care to a huge number of people in Wetherby. Arriving as a young, keen, rugby-playing doctor, adapting from handwritten records and prescriptions (we have doubts over their legibility) to computerised healthcare, he has become a senior figure both in local healthcare and in prison and addiction services.
We trust he will be looking forward to spending more time with his family and friends, travelling, getting to more live music gigs and major sporting events and following his beloved Aston Villa - but we know he will continue to pop in from time to time... he never can stay away from joint injections!
Dr Rickwood says, “I will miss Crossley Street Surgery immensely but it is time to hand over the reins to my fellow partners. I know they will continue to look after the practice with care and dedication. They are a truly fantastic bunch as are all the staff at the surgery.
"I have met and worked with some great patients and colleagues over the years. I still maintain we all learn something new from somebody each and every day which is why it has been such a privilege to be part of the Crossley Street Surgery journey.
"However, I am looking forward to stepping away to have time for a few more foreign trips (with just the right balance of sun and snow!), exploring some new challenges and, occasionally, just kicking back and relaxing...”
Dr Salisbury will be taking over the role of Senior Partner, supported by the other partners; Dr Lawrence, Dr Kitchen, and Dr Jones, and the wider Crossley Street Surgery team.
We’re sure that our patients will want to join us in sending our huge thanks to Dr Rickwood, and wishing him a very happy retirement. He will be much missed by all of us here and, we’re sure, by the very many patients he has looked after over the years.
The Practice would like to gather retirement wishes from patients to pass to Dr Rickwood. If anyone would like to send a message to be included, please email crossleystreet.enquiries@nhs.net with the subject line “Dr Rickwood retirement”. We will also share any comments you may wish to leave under this post.
