Reducing Avoidable Medicines Waste - Only order what you need 💊✅

West Yorkshire Health & Care Partnership is reminding patients to only order medicines they genuinely need when requesting repeat prescriptions. Every year, unused medication costs the NHS millions 💷 and contributes to unnecessary waste 🌍.

By checking what you already have at home and only ordering what’s needed, you can help reduce waste, protect the environment, and make sure NHS resources 🏥 are used where they’re needed most.

📢Temporary Pharmacy Disruption – Important Patient Notice

As you may be aware, Boots Pharmacy in Wetherby is currently closed following a break-in over the weekend. They are aiming to reopen later this week (possibly Thursday), and at the latest by the start of next week.

Day Lewis Pharmacy remains open but has limited capacity. There are also other local pharmacies, such as Village Pharmacy in Collingham, and Boots Pharmacy at Knaresborough Retail Park. To help ensure those who need medication most are prioritised, we kindly ask Boots patients to only request prescription redirection if it is genuinely urgent.

💠 If your medication can safely wait a few days (for example, you still have some supply remaining or it is not needed immediately), please do not contact the practice at this time.

💠 If your medication is due to run out very soon or is essential to take without interruption, please submit an admin request via AccuRx so we can issue a one-off prescription to another pharmacy.

Please be aware that this situation will significantly increase waiting times at other pharmacies, including Day Lewis. Only urgent requests should be redirected so they can safely support those in greatest need.

Thank you for your understanding and support while services are disrupted.

Please note that the surgery will be closed over the Easter bank holiday on:

📅 Friday 3rd April

🔹 Order early to avoid delays
🔹 Allow extra time for dispensing

Meningitis – information and advice

There has been increased coverage in the news recently about meningitis, and we understand this may be causing some worry and concern.

Meningitis can be serious, so it’s important to know the signs and when to seek medical help. For clear, up-to-date and trusted information – including symptoms, what to look out for, and details about vaccinations – please visit the NHS website:

Meningococcal B (MenB) vaccine

The MenB vaccine is part of the routine NHS childhood immunisation programme and has been offered to babies born on or after 1 May 2015.

Most people born before this date will not have received the MenB vaccine as part of the routine schedule.

You can check your child’s vaccination status using the NHS App.

At present, there is not enough national stock to offer the MenB vaccine outside of the routine immunisation programme.

If you or someone you care for is unwell and you’re worried, please don’t hesitate to seek medical advice.

Spring is beautiful… unless you have hayfever 🤧🌸

The sunshine is back, flowers are blooming, and everything feels fresh — but for many of us, it also means sneezing fits, itchy eyes, and a constant battle with tissues.

If you’re struggling right now, you’re definitely not alone. A few small things that can help:
• Keep windows closed during high pollen times
• Shower and change clothes after being outdoors
• Use sunglasses to protect your eyes
• Stay on top of antihistamines if needed

Here’s to enjoying spring despite the pollen! 🌼💛

If you’re planning a holiday or visiting family overseas, it’s important to check whether you need any travel vaccinations before you go.

Different countries carry different health risks, and some vaccines need to be given several weeks before travel to offer full protection.

Through the National Health Service, some travel vaccines are available free of charge, while others may require a private prescription.

If you’re unsure what you need, please contact the surgery as soon as possible with your travel details, including destination and travel dates.

We will organise a telephone appointment with one of our nurses, who will then arrange for a suitable time for you to get your travel vaccines.

Travel safely and enjoy your holiday! ☀️🌴
