🚫 Missed Appointments – Please Help Us Help You! 🚫

This weekend we had a high number of missed appointments (DNAs), and we wanted to remind everyone how important it is to cancel in good time if you no longer need your slot.

⏰ Weekend appointments are a particularly valuable and limited resource, and they don’t take place at the surgery, which makes last-minute changes harder to manage. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice for a Saturday appointment, it will be recorded as a DNA (Did Not Attend), as we’re not open as usual to reallocate the slot.

❗Every missed appointment is a missed opportunity for another patient who may really need that care.

✅ Please help us by:

➡️ Cancelling as early as possible if you can’t make it

➡️ Letting us know at least 24 hours in advance for weekend appointments

➡️ Calling during working hours to cancel if needed

➡️ Cancelling via your text message reminder (these are sent out 3 days before your appointment for Saturdays)

We really appreciate your support in helping us make the most of every appointment. Thank you! 💙

📣 Hospital Appointments – Important Information

We’ve noticed a recent increase in requests for our secretarial team to follow up on hospital referrals and appointments.

Just to clarify: once a referral is made, patients are given contact details for the hospital. These are the best and only contacts to use for any questions about appointments or waiting times - our team doesn’t have access to any extra or alternative information.

⏳ We also don’t have access to hospital waiting lists or appointment schedules beyond the information already available on our website via the hospitals themselves. We are unable to expedite appointments or influence referral waiting times unless your condition has significantly deteriorated since the point of your original referral.

✅ For updates, changes, or questions about your hospital appointment, please contact the hospital directly using the details provided with your referral.

Thank you for your understanding and helping us keep our phone lines open for those who need urgent medical advice.

🕰️ Why We Can’t Always See You If You Arrive Late – But You Might Wait If the GP Is Running Behind 🩺

We know it can feel frustrating if you arrive late and are asked to rebook - especially if you’ve had times when the GP was running behind. So we wanted to explain why there’s a difference.

When you book an appointment with our GPs, you are given a 10-minute time slot for this appointment. This is to ensure good availability and reduced waiting times for appointments, but also means that our GPs have time to give you the care you need.

When a patient arrives late, even by a few minutes, there often isn’t enough time left in the slot to safely and properly address their concerns. Trying to squeeze it in can affect care - both for that patient and for everyone after them.

💭 Imagine this: You arrive on time for your appointment. But another patient who was booked before you turns up late, and the GP agrees to see them. Now you’re stuck waiting even longer, even though you did everything right. Understandably, that would feel unfair - and that’s exactly what we try to avoid.
On the other hand, if the GP is running behind, it’s almost always because someone earlier needed more time - for example, they were really distressed, or the issue turned out to be more complex than expected.

➡️ You might have experienced this yourself: Maybe you once needed longer in your own appointment, and the GP stayed with you, even though it meant they’d run late or have to work through their break. We build in flexibility for situations like that because it’s about clinical need - not lateness.

🧠 So the difference really comes down to fairness and safety. We want every patient to get the time they genuinely need - but also to respect everyone else’s time too. That’s why we stick to a clear system for late arrivals, and why we really appreciate your understanding.

💬 Thanks for bearing with us - we know your time is valuable, and we’re always working to run as smoothly and fairly as possible.

📢 Important update about weight loss medications

We've had a surge in requests following a recent BBC article claiming GPs can now prescribe weight loss medication for free on the NHS.

⚠️ This is not accurate.
In our area, these medications can only be prescribed by specialist services – not by your GP.
