Study Title: Exploring sensory needs, anxiety, and experiences of accessing education for autistic children and young people
Ethics: This study has been reviewed and approved by the University of Bath Research Ethics Committee – Ref: 11627-15960
Who am I:
My name is Rosie Watts, and I am carrying out this research as part of my Clinical Psychology training at the University of Bath. This study has been designed with parents and carers of autistic children and young people who have experienced challenges in accessing education.
Who can take part:
Parents or carers of children aged 9 – 14 years who are formally diagnosed as autistic or are currently on a waitlist for an autism assessment.
What does participation involve:
You will be asked to fill out an anonymous online survey to answer some questions about your child’s needs, including feelings of anxiety and how they experience and interact with the world around them. You will also report on how often your child has been unable to access education in the past 20 school days.
Participation is voluntary. Participants will have the option to be entered into a prize draw (optional) as a token of appreciation for their time.
Why this research matters:
This study aims to deepen our understanding of the needs of autistic children and young people who face difficulties in accessing education. We hope our findings will contribute to developing more inclusive educational environments and better support systems for autistic children and young people.
