“Up Up and Away” our hot air balloon crafting session on our courtyard community was a lovely sensory activity. Working with varied textures (paper, wool, paint) and bright, colours provides positive sensory stimulation whilst providing a cheerful way to brighten up our community each balloon uniquely crafted by each resident. I’m sure you will agree residents did a fantastic job.

Drumming Exercise What’s not to like? Taking part in this kind of activity has lots of benefits for residents. Helping to reduce stress
Group drumming fosters a sense of belonging, whilst having lots of fun.
The engaging nature of the activity creates a fun experience rather than a "chore" like traditional exercise. Adapted to suit
all fitness levels, including individuals with limited mobility who can participate while sitting. We definitely had lots of fun 🤩

Taste of memories, was a lovely activity for residents on our York, Wilson and Fairview communities. Eating food from childhood brings back lots of memories, the link between taste and smell directly acts as a "time machine," often providing comfort, and a connection to their past. There were lots of lovely conversations and stories between residents, the tinned fruit and carnation cream was definitely a favourite.

Fruity Friday went down an absolute treat with residents on our courtyard, Green and Fairview communities. Activities such as this give residents lots of sensory stimulation: Fresh fruit offers bright colours, appealing textures, and varied aromas. This is especially helpful for residents with dementia, as it stimulates the senses, evokes memories of the past, and increases interest in eating. We had lots of conversations about going blackberry picking and eating lots before they even arrived at home, apple picking from the trees, mums baking gooseberry pies. It was a perfect afternoon full of childhood memories.

We hope they make you smile when you read them.
