Tight glutes aren’t just something you feel after the gym — they can have a knock-on effect on how your whole body moves🚶
If your glute muscles are holding too much tension, you might notice:
• Lower back pain or stiffness
• Hip discomfort or reduced movement
• Knee pain when walking, running, or squatting
• A constant “tight” feeling, especially when stretching or sitting cross-legged
When the glutes are tight, they can restrict normal hip movement. This often leads to other areas like the lower back or knees working harder to compensate, which is where pain and issues can develop.
The good news is that simple release work can make a big difference. Improving flexibility in the glutes can help reduce pain and improve mobility.
In this video, Physio Louise demonstrates an easy glute release technique you can try at home.

🤱 New Mum MOT – Postnatal Health Check at Physiofit Leeds
Pregnancy and childbirth place a huge demand on your body, and many women experience weakness in their abdominal and pelvic floor muscles afterwards.
Our New Mum MOT is a 1-hour postnatal check designed to support your recovery and help you safely return to exercise and everyday activities.
During your session we will:
• Talk through any symptoms, concerns or goals
• Assess your posture, lower back and pelvis
• Check your abdominal muscles for separation
• Review pelvic floor function
You’ll leave with personalised advice, exercises and a clear recovery plan tailored to you.
This check is recommended from around 6 weeks after birth, but it can still be helpful later on.
At Physiofit Leeds, our specialist physiotherapists Louise, Ghazaleh and Suzie offer acupuncture and dry needling to help reduce pain and support your recovery.
This safe treatment uses fine, sterile needles to stimulate the body’s natural healing response and block pain signals.
Today we celebrate the strength, resilience and and achievements of women everywhere. 💜
Physiofit Leeds - Physiotherapy and Pilates we're proud to support women at every stage of their life — from the childbearing years and postnatal recovery, through the transitions of perimenopause and menopause, and into strong, active older age.
Every stage brings unique changes to the body, and our goal is to help women feel supported, informed, and empowered through movement, rehabilitation, and strength.
Whether it's preparing the body for pregnancy, recovering after birth, managing menopausal changes, or maintaining mobility and independence later in life — we're here to help women move well and live well.
Here's to celebrating the strength of women today and every day. 🌸

❔Did you know that physiotherapy can help with jaw problems❔
Jaw area pain, clicking, problems chewing, neck pain, headaches and even blurred vision or tingling can be caused by problems with the TMJ (temporomandibular joint). This where your jaw bone joins on to your skull and has many powerful muscles around it, as well as nerves running near it. This means symptoms from TMJ dysfunction can be felt in surrounding areas as well as the joint itself.
Our physio Ghazaleh specialises in treatment for the TMJ, using techniques shown here including manual therapy to the TMJ, neck and cranial areas, acupuncture and corrective exercises. Her tailored, hands-on approach can dramatically improve both local and referred symptoms, helping patients return to a more comfortable and functional life.
All the signs are there... Spring is just around the corner!
Will this motivate you to get out for more walking or running? Maybe you’ve signed up for a charity walk, a half or even a full marathon?
Increasing your distance, pace or frequency of training too quickly can commonly cause pains in your hips, knees or feet. These “overuse” injuries include conditions like tendinopathy, bursitis, plantar fasciitis and shin splints.
At Physiofit, we‘ve helped hundreds of runners and walkers over the years, so can help you manage your training around an injury and guide you through a rehab programme to get you back on track as soon as possible.
Your treatment may include:
✔️ Exercise prescription
✔️ Joint mobilisation and manipulation
✔️ Soft tissue techniques such as trigger point release, muscle energy techniques and neural mobilisation
✔️ Acupuncture
✔️ Electrotherapy including ultrasound, interferential and TENS

Stella – “…such a wonderful physio and Pilates instructor”
Not our words (although we completely agree!).
Stella received this beautiful card from a postnatal client who is moving on from her classes. Inside were words we hear time and time again — and they’re exactly why we believe every new mum should come to our Pilates classes:
✨ “I feel I have got so much stronger…”
✨ “…you have helped me to feel like me again”
✨ “…you’ve made me love Pilates so much I will keep it up”
Postnatal recovery is about so much more than exercise.
It’s about rebuilding strength, restoring confidence, and helping women feel like themselves again.
We’re so proud of you, Stella — and so grateful to support so many incredible mums on their journey 💛
