Healthwatch Leeds

Healthwatch Leeds We make sure your voice influences health and care services so that these services are made better. Understanding our work & what we do

1.

Healthwatch Leeds is here to help local people get the best out of their local health and care services by bringing their voice to those who plan and deliver services in Leeds. We actively gather views from local people and communities about their experiences of services. We use these in different ways to influence change. Good Practice Principles

2. We work together with our health and social care partners to identify how we can have the most influence and make the best use of our resources.

3. When services are planned or changed, we ensure that local people are being listened to. We will always check whether their views have been taken into account.

4. We provide an information, advice and signposting service for the public about finding and accessing health and care services.

Wishing our staff, volunteers and followers who celebrate a happy Eid Al-Fitr from all of us at Healthwatch Leeds 🎉

This week is neurodiversity celebration week. A week to raise awareness and recognise the many skills and talents of neurodivergent individuals. We pride ourselves on having a neurodiverse staff team and value hearing the experiences of people who think differently from others to gain new perspectives on how health and care services can improve and be more accessible. Get in touch to share your feedback.

Today is , a day to take action, raise awareness and support young carers.

In a recent video, Gemma told us about how she has been helping her deaf parents since she was around 14 years old, with no support. In this video, she says that the lack of support from organisations to make them more accessible for her parents has meant that they rely on her to access the health and care services they need, and it has a knock-on effect on her own health and wellbeing.

She says, "It would be quite nice to have parents for once".

We encourage as many organisations, communities and individuals as possible to take part in the day by taking action, supporting and raising awareness of young carers.

❗️ Patient safety alert: Ramipril 5mg Capsules recall
The MHRA are advising patients who may have received Ramipril 5 mg Capsules (batch GR164099) to check their medication, following a precautionary recall of one batch due to a potential packaging error.
Some cartons may contain Amlodipine 5 mg Tablets instead of Ramipril capsules due to a packaging error.
The risk to patients of the accidental substitution of one widely used blood pressure medication for another is low. The most likely side effect would be dizziness related to low blood pressure.
If your pack contains Ramipril capsules, you do not need to take any action.
If your pack contains Amlodipine tablets instead, contact your pharmacy for advice and a replacement.

Thank you to Abdul for sharing his experience. We recently published a report summarising all of his videos, which you can find on our website. In one of his videos, Abdul talked about how different health and care services use different channels to contact him, such as letters, text messages, and phone calls, which caused confusion because the messages were not consistent or accurate each time.

As a result, Abdul's experience is driving real changes in Leeds. Organisations are working to improve personal care through clearer, more compassionate communication.
