International Stress Awareness Week is 3 - 7 November and this year the theme is Optimising Employee Wellbeing through Strategic Stress Management.

Here at the PHRC we can support your Human Resources team with resources to support your staff with stress awareness.

Our stress bucket is an interactive and engaging game aims to demonstrate how everyday stressors can make someone more or less vulnerable to mental distress. The buckets represent people and each colourful ball represents a stressor, such as car breaking down, tough time at work etc. The balls are placed in the larger bucket to show the stressors affecting that person. As the bucket fills up with 'stressors' the messages that people become unwell when the stress they face becomes more than they can cope with becomes clear, demonstrated by the overflowing of the bucket. A smaller bucket is included, to demonstrate vulnerability to mental distress with the message that different people have different sized 'buckets' and so can cope with different amounts of stress. Suitable for use with many different communities, with groups and one-to-ones.

The stress and you board is a great tool for stress reduction programmes, this comprehensive display covers all the basics, from defining stress, to describing stress management techniques. Also includes information on causes and physical effects of stress.

Discover simple steps to help look after your mental wellbeing (L157). This ten-sided wallet card promotes the Better Health - Every Mind Matters campaign. It provides tips on dealing with anxiety, sleep problems, stress, and low mood. It also urges readers to search for Every Mind Matters to get a free, personalised 'Mind Plan'.

Does it feel like the older you get, the more stressful life is? (P662). An A3 poster is aimed at young people in Leeds. It features three young people. This poster signposts to https://orlo.uk/mindmate_website_uPTBS and MindMate

Stress bingo for adults. This game looks at the basics of stress management and reviews five important stress areas specifically targeting stress issues for adults: External stressors; Internal stressors; Physical stress symptoms; Emotional/behavioural stress symptoms; Stress relievers. Using the five sets of calling cards enables the players to review and personalise how these factors affect individual stress management styles.

The UKHSA are now publishing their COVID-19, flu and RSV surveillance bulletin every Thursday afternoon. This brings together the latest surveillance data, along with the latest public health advice for COVID-19, flu, RSV and other respiratory infections. This helps inform winter preparedness and response.
The latest surveillance data published by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) shows that flu activity is continuing to increase amongst school-aged children, as data also suggests we are seeing signs of a possible earlier flu season.
In week 42:
• Influenza activity increased, particularly among children, and is now above baseline in some indicators
• COVID-19 showed decreasing activity, circulating at low levels
• Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) showed increasing activity across some indicators but is still circulating at baseline levels
UKHSA is urging all eligible groups, including everyone over 65, pregnant, or in a clinical risk group, to book their flu vaccination appointment to ensure they are protected heading into winter.
Parents are reminded to sign and return consent forms to schools, or to book an appointment for 2 to 3-year-olds, to ensure their child gets vaccinated against flu.

Want To Know More About... Type 2 diabetes
Monday 1 December, 11am to midday
Join Leeds Health Awareness for a friendly and light-hearted online information session about type 2 diabetes.

Diagnosis of type 2 diabetes is rising in the UK. This information session is for anyone who would like to learn more about type 2 diabetes and is presented in a style that makes it accessible to a wide audience.

The session will cover:

the difference between type 1 and type 2 diabetes
what is happening when someone is pre-diabetic
what we can do to minimise the risk of developing type 2 diabetes
This webinar will be delivered by Darren and Megan from Leeds Health Awareness Service and will last approximately 1 hour, which will include time for questions and answers at the end of the presentation.
