March 24 marks World Tuberculosis (TB) Day. The 2026 global theme is “Yes! We can end TB. Led by countries. Powered by communities.” - signifying the collective action needed from governments, organisations and communities to reduce TB rates.

Although TB is preventable and treatable, it remains one of the world’s leading causes of death from an infectious disease.

Key messages for World TB Day:
• Don’t ignore a persistent cough (lasting 3+ weeks) or ongoing cold/flu-like symptoms - think TB and contact your GP.
• TB is an airborne infection and can affect anyone.
• TB is curable, and treatment is highly effective.
• TB treatment is free for everyone in UK, regardless of immigration status.
• With treatment, majority with active TB become non-infectious within around two weeks.
• If you are eligible, get tested for latent TB - further information on screening is available here: Tuberculosis (TB) - Leeds Community Healthcare

If you would like to access TB awareness resources, the following leaflets are available to order from the Public Health Resource Centre:

• The Truth About TB: What should I know about latent TB? (L196) – A5 leaflet
• The Truth About TB: What should I know about TB? (L197) – A5 leaflet
• TB: Don’t wait ’til it wakes (L199) – wallet-sized card

🌿 Step Away. Step Outside. Step Forward.
In the middle of busy schedules, meetings and deadlines, it can be difficult to prioritise wellbeing. However, something as simple as a short walk at lunchtime can have a meaningful impact on both mental and physical health.

Taking 15–20 minutes to step outside and move your body can:

• Improve concentration and productivity
• Reduce stress and mental fatigue
• Support physical health and posture
• Create space for clearer thinking and decision-making

Adding a mindful element to your walk can enhance the benefits even further. Try:

🔹 Noticing your breathing and slowing it down
🔹 Observing your surroundings — sounds, colours, movement
🔹 Leaving your phone in your pocket
🔹 Letting go of the morning and mentally resetting for the afternoon

Wellbeing at work isn’t just about large initiatives — it’s about small, consistent habits that support resilience and performance.

This week, we encourage colleagues across the organisation to take a mindful lunchtime walk where possible. Even a short break can make a difference.

Let’s look after our wellbeing, together.

A smoke-free life starts with a smoke-free day! No Smoking Day on 11 March is a great first quit day, and we have a selection of leaflets to support with this campaign and beyond:

Va**ng is at least 95% less harmful than smoking (L319) - This leaflet provides information on e-cigarettes and va**ng as a stop-smoking aid. It highlights the risks to health from smoking to***co products, and also where to go to for support to quit smoking.

Va**ng and e-cigarettes: the facts for parents and carers (L318) - This leaflet supports parents and carers to have conversations with children about va**ng.

Now is the best time to quit (L306) - This leaflet highlights that stopping smoking is one of the best things we can do for our health. It provides information on the various ways to quit and contact details for Leeds Stop Smoking Services.

Quit smoking (L305) - This ten-sided wallet card promotes the benefits of quitting smoking and the range of free support available to those wishing to quit.
