Last week the transplant team hosted a renal patient support evening for those patients with CKD stage 5. Organised by Heather, one of the recipient co-ordinators, the evening gave patients a chance to connect and interact with different services within renal including; the early kidney care team, dialysis teams, renal social worker and dietician amongst others. We also had representatives in attendance from Kidney Research Yorkshire the lovely Linda from NKF - National Kidney Federation and Kidney Care UK .
Thank you to everyone for your incredible support, we are excited to host more events in the future and work collaboratively for the benefit of our patients 💞

Transplant Team parkrun takeover!

Our Children’s and Adult’s Transplant Sport teams are planning a parkrun take-over at the Roundhay Park parkrun and parkwalk on Saturday 23 May, 9am.

In partnership with NHS Blood and Transplant, the team are inviting hospital colleagues, transplant recipients, friends, families and supporters to join the 5km walk or run to raise awareness of organ donation.

We would love to see as many people there as possible so whether you're a runner, walker or supporter - please check your diaries and join us if you can!

🩷This Mother's Day we're sending love to...

Those who have lost mothers.

Mothers alive thanks to the gift of life.

Mothers proud to be living donors.

Mothers proud of their children for becoming organ donors.

Mothers of transplant recipients.

Mothers waiting for the gift of life.

Those who have gone on to become mothers, thanks to organ donation.

Mothers who are on the Organ Donor Register and encourage open conversations about it.

Those who have received the gift of life thanks to a mother's generosity.

Fantastic work Sunil Daga shining the light on kidney disease in our region and always striving for better access and quality of care for our patients

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

On World Kidney Day we are pleased to announce our growing partnership with Kidney Research Yorkshire working together to develop research and tackle health inequalities across Yorkshire. We’ll be working together, alongside Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and the University of Leeds to work towards transforming care for renal patients and their families.

Rebecca Baldaro-Booth, Director of Grants and Impact at Leeds Hospitals Charity:

“We know that kidney disease and kidney failure is prevalent in Leeds and continues to have a significant impact across our local communities. The need for dialysis treatment is a growing issue, and this will continue to increase every year.

We are fortunate to have brilliant researchers across Yorkshire who are passionate about tackling and improving these health inequalities. We’re excited to be growing our partnership with Kidney Research Yorkshire to support innovative research that can help improve outcomes for those most affected by this disease and ultimately improve their quality of life.”

Sunil Daga, Scientific Advisor at Kidney Research Yorkshire:

“This partnership marks an important step forward for kidney research in our region. By working together, we can enable research in Yorkshire that accelerates discovery, supports clinical innovation and ultimately improves outcomes for patients.

This collaboration will give researchers the resources and environment they need to drive meaningful progress to deliver better outcomes for people living with kidney disease.”

Registration for this year’s transplant games is open for competitors and volunteers! The event is being held in Sheffield this year. The Games aim to demonstrate the benefits of transplantation, encouraging transplant patients to regain fitness, whilst increasing public awareness of the need for more people to join the NHS Organ Donation Register and discuss their wishes with their families. It is also an opportunity to thank and celebrate donor families and the gift of life 🩷

You can now register to compete or volunteer at this year’s Westfield Health British Transplant Games!

Competitor entries are open to transplant recipients, supporters, live donors and donor families of all abilities.

Organisers are also seeking up to 200 volunteers to help deliver the event, which is a celebration of transplant recipients, donors and their families.

Volunteer roles will range from helping with registration through to the general running of the event, as well as being linked to specific sports.
