“Toughen up” might sound motivating… but it doesn’t help a stressed or overwhelmed nervous system. It doesn’t create safety. It doesn’t build resilience. It often just teaches people to suppress what they’re feeling.

Growth doesn’t come from shutting emotions down.
It comes from understanding them. Regulating them. Supporting them.

Strength isn’t about hardening.
It’s about learning how to feel — without falling apart.

Next time you’re tempted to say “toughen up,” try:
“I’m here.”
