✨ A moment that meant a lot today…

A patient came in just to say thank you — and brought me a beautiful gift.

It stopped me in my tracks.

Because moments like this remind me what a true privilege this work is. Not just to treat symptoms… but to walk alongside someone as they begin to understand their health, their body, and often their life in a deeper way.

At our practice, we tend to work with people who are:

🌿 Curious about their health
🌿 Open-minded to looking deeper
🌿 Willing to explore root causes
🌿 Ready to be active participants in their healing

This work isn’t always quick.
It isn’t always linear.

But when someone leans in with trust, openness and commitment — the shifts that happen can be profound.

Today was a gentle reminder:

Medicine meets humanity in the quiet thank-you moments.

And I never take that trust for granted. 💛

Perimenopause doesn’t start at 50 — and for many women, it begins in their late 30s or early 40s 🌿

Perimenopause is the transition phase before menopause, and it can last 8–10 years.

Here’s what makes it confusing 👇

✨ Your cycles might still be regular
✨ Your blood tests may come back “normal”
✨ But you feel… different

You might notice:
– Mood shifts
– Poorer sleep
– Heavier periods
– Brain fog
– New or worsening anxiety

During this stage, hormones fluctuate more unpredictably — especially progesterone — which can make symptoms feel intense or inconsistent 🔄

Understanding what’s happening earlier means you can support your body before symptoms escalate 💛

If you’re noticing changes but being told you’re “too young,” you’re not alone.

Follow for grounded, evidence-based guidance through perimenopause and beyond 🌸

✨ The power of collaborative care

Today I had the privilege of speaking at the Health Coaching Academy alongside our wonderful integrative pharmacist — such a powerful reminder that healing works best as a team.

When care is fragmented, patients can feel lost between silos.
But when we bring together time, deep history, and ongoing coaching support, the picture changes.

We shared the story of a patient we’ve supported for over a year — and the progress with a true team approach has been so encouraging. 🌿

Because information alone doesn’t create change…
Supported, collaborative care does.

Some days… you don’t need perfect.
You just need nourishing. 🌿

Today = chicken soup. 🥣

✔ Warm
✔ Simple
✔ Full of goodness
✔ Easy on the body

Nothing fancy.
Just food that supports me.

How I decide what to eat (most days):

🔴 Step 1: What does my body need right now?
– Energy?
– Comfort?
– Something gentle on digestion?

🟡 Step 2: Will this keep my blood sugar steady?
(I usually look for protein + nutrients.)

🟢 Step 3: Is this realistic for today?
Because overwhelmed bodies don’t need complicated meals.

✨ My north star: balance, not perfection.

Some days it’s a carefully planned meal.
Some days it’s chicken soup.
Both can support healing.

Your gentle check-in:
What is one nourishing thing your body might need today? 💛

Sometimes we forget the power of the simplest things.

The intention you set for your day…
And the moment you choose to smile.

A genuine smile is not just an expression.
It is biology. It is safety. It is medicine.

When you smile — even gently — your nervous system begins to soften.
Your body receives signals of safety.
Stress chemistry can begin to shift.
Healing pathways can quietly switch on.

In functional medicine we often focus on the deeper root causes (and rightly so)…
But never underestimate the micro-moments that tell the body:

✨ You are safe
✨ You can soften
✨ You can heal

Today, see if you can connect with just one thing that brings a small, real smile.

Not forced.
Not performative.
Just human.

Because sometimes healing begins with something beautifully simple.

If your PMS feels worse in your 30s than it did in your 20s… you’re not imagining it 🤍

In your 30s and 40s, progesterone is often the first hormone to decline — even while oestrogen stays relatively stable.

This can create what we call relative oestrogen dominance ⚖️

And that can look like:
✨ Heavier periods
✨ Breast tenderness
✨ Anxiety before your cycle
✨ Low mood
✨ Poor sleep

Now add chronic stress — which further suppresses progesterone — and symptoms can intensify 🔥

It’s not that your body is failing.
It’s that the hormonal balance has shifted.

This is one of the most common hormonal patterns I see in clinic with women in their 30s and 40s.

A real clinic day — through the Clarity → Transform → Thrive lens

People often think functional medicine is about supplements.

It isn’t.

Today showed exactly why.

🔴 CLARITY — understanding what’s actually happening

One patient came with behaviour and mood changes.

Not psychiatric.
Not personality.
Not “just stress”.

We found immune activation — and mould exposure sitting underneath it.

When the immune system is inflamed, the brain changes.

Clarity is about removing blame and replacing it with biology.

🟡 TRANSFORM — targeted support once we know the why

Another patient has had a chronic viral illness for a long time.

We spent months supporting immune defence.

Now they feel better.

So today we changed direction — away from fighting and toward repair:
supporting mitochondrial function and rebuilding resilience.

Treatment changes when physiology changes.

🟡 TRANSFORM — metabolic drivers

Someone else came with blood pressure issues.

Not just a heart problem.

We identified:
• insulin resistance
• liver strain
• vascular inflammation

So the plan isn’t just lowering numbers —
it’s improving the environment those numbers come from.

🟢 THRIVE — prevention and future health

We also reviewed bone scans and vitamin D status.

No symptoms yet.
But this is where prevention lives.

Thrive is about protecting your future self, not waiting for disease.

Different patients
Different systems
Different plans

Same principle:

Understand → Support → Maintain

That’s functional medicine.

If your health story hasn’t made sense yet,
start with clarity.

Most people think fatigue means something is broken.

Very often… it means your body is stuck in a repeated pattern.

Energy isn’t only about nutrients or hormones — it’s about signals.

Three simple signals your brain uses to decide how much energy to give you:

🔹 Hydration
Your brain reduces alertness when you’re even slightly dehydrated.
Not because you’re lazy — because it’s protecting you.

🔹 Movement
You don’t move because you have energy.
You get energy because you move.
Gentle movement tells your nervous system: we’re safe to switch on.

🔹 Changing routine
The brain adapts to predictability.
Same chair, same screen, same pattern → lower activation → fatigue.

Small changes wake the system:
step outside
stand instead of sit
different first task of the day

This isn’t about discipline.
It’s about physiology.

Start small. Repeat daily.
Energy follows signals.

If fatigue has been persistent, sometimes the body needs deeper support and understanding.

Book a discovery call to see if a functional medicine approach is right for you.

People often come to functional medicine expecting one of two things:

Either a miracle supplement
Or something vague and unscientific

It’s neither.

Functional medicine is simply this:
understanding why your body is behaving the way it is before deciding what to do about it.

No protocols.
No “everyone with fatigue takes this”.
No quick fixes.

Sometimes the answer is nutrition.
Sometimes sleep.
Sometimes stress physiology.
Sometimes medical treatment.

But we only know after we map the whole picture.

This approach works best for people who are curious about their health and ready to be involved in the process — not looking for a replacement prescription.

Clarity first. Treatment second.
If you want to find out whether this approach is right for you,
book a discovery call with the team — we’ll talk through your situation and see if we’re a good fit.

“What actually happens when you start at our clinic?”

Most people delay starting care because they don’t know what “starting” actually means.

It isn’t tests first.
It isn’t supplements first.
It’s understanding first.

Why you’re exhausted even after 8 hours of sleep 😴

If you wake up tired after a full night’s sleep… this isn’t necessarily a sleep problem.

Sleep duration doesn’t always equal restorative sleep.

Chronic stress keeps cortisol elevated 📈
And when cortisol stays high, your body can’t properly drop into deep, cellular repair overnight.

Add in:
⚡ Blood sugar dips
🧬 Nutrient deficiencies
🌙 Hormone imbalances

…and your body stays in survival mode all night.

So even if you’re doing “everything right” — the magnesium, the early night, the no screens — your physiology may never truly power down.

This is incredibly common in high-functioning women who are juggling a lot and pushing through exhaustion.

You’re not lazy.
You’re not unmotivated.
Your body just doesn’t feel safe enough to switch off.

If this resonates and you’re ready to understand your root causes, I’d love to help.

“What if it doesn’t work?”

When you’ve lived with symptoms for a long time, trying something new isn’t just practical — it’s emotional.
It means allowing yourself to hope again.

So we’ve written a blog to answer this honestly.
Not a promise, not persuasion — just clarity about who this approach helps and when it may not be the right fit.

If you’ve ever wondered whether this journey is for you, this is a good place to start.
