1. Supportive accessible safe spaces for community members, families, groups and organisations to meet, talk, chat and get organised on 'what matters the most locally'
2. Accountability by protecting community interests and assets for the common good to be environmentally and economically sustainable for a better future.
3. Fellowship of organised support for local services, organisations and community members for the unity of the community to become more self reliant in times of hardship
4. Equality promoted through diverse values and behaviours leading to an inclusive community-led infrastructure.
1). What Matters The Most -
General Considerations;
To provide safe accessible spaces to facilitate community interaction with opportunities for social inclusion, therapies, learning and growth; Supporting the community with on line and real world spaces for connections, understanding and problem solving with what matters the most. We will provide community spaces to meet, talk, gather, get organised, learn and share knowledge on daily living skills and crisis management while we'll also provide an On-line community platform to gather and spread knowledge of all local services’ events and fund raisers. S.A.F.E community spaces will be somewhere for local people to gather and connect, to pursue shared interests and/or activities; both social and formal while following our mission and approach (See CIC 36 form). The facilitated activities will be focused on finding and promoting community led sustainable solutions, targeting community interests and needs. activities will promote / create / facilitate groups following mission and approach in 4 main areas:
*Support groups
Tackling hardship and isolation through wellness, recovery and Social Inclusion, from human library to tackle isolation to Peer support-led talking therapies, educational life skills sessions to Recovery and growth.
*Action groups
on what matters need action from donation drives to litter picking, traffic monitoring (Speed watches), neighbourhood support (Inc. Elderly reach out) and local alert responses.
*Focus groups
form in house to local community news, views to problems and solving and awareness of concerns on line and off
ie Create Community steering boards
(Age profiles targeted - 25) to mould the communities and S.A.F.E. future.
*Exercise groups
Indoor/outdoor to address communities needs and limits and what the local area can provide, encouraging people to be active , with low cost alternatives for staying healthy
S.A.F.E. will provide a safe environment that is warm, dry, non-judgemental and inclusive of diversity with clear respectful boundaries. This can mean a community space could be a wide range of places – not tied down to one specific building, with S.A.F.E. becoming a local resource of accessible spaces . So a space can actually be a whole / part building / church / community hall, garden / allotment, sports or leisure space during an associated / facilitated activity. This can lead to vital community asset and infrastructure protection by promoting community usage. S.A.F.E will develop and manage access to good-quality, well-maintained public spaces to help to improve our physical and mental health and well-being by encouraging the community to socialise more, promoting activity, or offering opportunities for learning and growth. Providing our community spaces will be a powerful weapon in promoting a healthier lifestyle. Benefits are;
Providing social opportunities that build a sense of community and belonging to reduce loneliness and isolation. Creates a human library by embracing existing and forging new social relationships between people of different ethnic backgrounds, gender and sexual orientations, differing generations, occupations or geographies. Creates diverse groups that tackle current community concerns. Creates connections between online and offline worlds. Giving people from all backgrounds a voice in shaping the future of their communities. Improving emotional well-being. Improving life and practical skills. Access to trusted relationships and feel safer. Enables communities to build from their strengths with stronger bonds Enables more positive social interaction through high quality opportunities which create lifelong healthier habits. Outreach to youth and younger adults to give them a constructive voice, with integration and sense of community. Advocacy and promotion of key local council events and agendas that fit in with CIC’s values and mission. Provides safe accessible Online and Real world spaces to facilitate community interactions and engagement with opportunities for social inclusion.
2). Protecting community assets -
General Considerations;
The Support Alliance For Equality will act as a unifying community body in protecting the interests of the local community assets & infrastructure. Through directors, volunteers, focus groups, we will commit to activities that develop and manage these spaces. Focusing on ways to innovate, motivate and elevate the community to utilise surrounding spaces and repurpose existing assets in new innovative projects. are committed to finding, setting up, organising & running sustainable projects, creating safe and accessible Spaces in the community, that adapt & respond to the community’s needs. Taking on community ownership of unused assets that ranges from inside spaces, whole properties or part occupied/shared spaces to outside spaces from neglected local areas to shared ownership of gardens and leisure spaces. Activities will support the community to work with local / district authorities, landlords, local businesses and property owners to unlock the community value of these assets in 4 main areas of common good;
*Supportive
To local community, services, and business needs, with particular focus on economic and environment sustainability.
*Accountability
Clear contracts between all parties on goals, responsibilities and expectations that follow the S.A.F.E. mission and approach.
*Fellowship
of respect for local community people, assets and interests with inclusive use of spaces and supporting community united on future-focus aims of the evolving needs of the local community,
*Equality
Embracing a diversity of people and ideas & championing respectful, non-discriminatory, inclusive attitudes and behaviours for all involved in S.A.F.E. Processes and spaces. With the existing challenges and burdens placed on local authority’s financial responsibilities, there are a significant number of existing community assets in the surrounding Leek and Moorlands area that are currently unused (fully or partly), neglected or under /de-funded and/or unstaffed. With the local cost of living crisis many other landlords and trustees have unused spaces that could become a source of community value. Community asset ie, Bank House (Grade 2), in Leek town centre was given back to local authority control for the use of supporting the community three years ago. Due to local economical conditions, it has laid empty since. Only costing for its maintenance and repair, reaching a record high in repairs this year 2023, resulting in threats of a potential future sale for commercial development. Bank House was donated to the community in 1984 there for be used for the community. by S.A.F.E unlocking all / part of community assets we will use these safe spaces, to unify and organise community-led support by becoming an official provider of multi-office/multi-space and function rooms, that would service the community’s needs committed to a strategic, organised and accountable use of public assets, with the future goal of returning all possible unused spaces/assets back into sustainable community resources. Benefits are;
All S.A.F.E. controlled spaces will be environmentally and economically sustainable with achievable self-funding and eco-friendly goals. To utilise and expand communities use of local assets. Protecting community assets for future generations use. Improvement of local spaces by promoting projects that update and improve their accessibility for public use. Support the local economy through cooperation with local businesses and local property agents /holders. Embracing projects and groups that support positive Equality attitudes, values and behaviours. Create local volunteer opportunities and training. Support community projects that promote sustainable economic and environmental practices. Greater resilience to the current cost of living crisis as well as any future adversity. Positive impact with greater healthier use of natural environments. Improve the places and spaces that matter to communities. Supports, relieves and compliments local services. Offering safe warm spaces can reduce isolation, anxiety and neglect for the public, especially for the vulnerable in the community.
3). Support for local services and organisations -
General Considerations;
With rising demands, costs and overheads, unlocking community assets and providing affordable spaces can relieve financial pressure on services thus potentially saving these projects/services. This can include facilitating heavier demands with flexible spaces, as well as hosting, organising and bridging local efforts and costs under the S.A.F.E. umbrella. We can form working partnerships with other community interest companies/projects that share our mission and values to reduce costs and spread/expand demand. activities will create local alliance following mission and approach in 4 main areas:
*Supportive
S.A.F.E. spaces will support community events, promoting awareness of and/or signposting to appropriate services, be it Online or real world platforms. Set up a Donations bank for essential/ none essential items. will collect, store and distribute through a fair system of need by reuse, recycling and/or resale of
All S.A.F.E. controlled spaces will be environmentally and economically sustainable with community donations to benefit the community with sustainable cost.
*Accountability
Collection and reporting of live data to assist local services and authorities to identify issues, problems and gaps. With on the ground evidence collected in collaboration. i.e. Supporting traffic watch/safety monitoring initiatives such as “20 is Plenty”
*Fellowship
Provide a meeting place to hold awareness events from local support services to national health agendas i.e. Mental Health awareness week to Hot-desks and pop office/surgeries spaces for advice on health, financial and housing advice. Volunteering; Committed to finding, setting up, organising & running sustainable projects with local volunteers and assets.
*Equality
Finding, starting, organising & running sustainable resource projects and promote initiatives that utilise safe spaces that target local wellness, recovery and social inclusion. growing sustainable basic foods. is currently fielding interest and community support from individuals, other community organisations and we are now part of the Staffordshire Moorlands VCSE (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprises) Locality Forum. In supporting other services and/or outreach projects we can reduce the impact of isolation, neglect and hopelessness through the unity of community. Thus relieving increased demand on critical services. With some services facing a higher demand, funding challenges and an increase in cost of delivering these services then a safe warm space to share awareness, gather and spread community knowledge and solutions without adding any extra burden to existing services benefits the community. We will promote charities, CIC's, services and organisations that share our mission and approach to deliver their objectives in our safe spaces with the intention of increasing their use and garnering further support from the shared community. We hope to explore opportunities to increase the volunteer workers pool and their experience opportunities, as well as helping community members return to work where possible by assisting with the creation of CVs, applying for jobs and advice on interview techniques. Equality and diversity are essential components of health and social care. Good equality and diversity practices make sure that the services provided to people are fair and accessible to everyone. Will ensure that people are treated as equals, that people get the dignity and respect they deserve and that their differences are celebrated. activities will create local equality following mission and approach in 4 main areas:

Set up a diversity committee to engage with the community and promote community led themes and projects.

Hold diversity briefings, promoting inclusion through holiday/celebration days that compliment and extol our diverse community’s aims and goals. I.e. Black history month, Mental Health and Well-being awareness, International Youth day, Remembrance day.

Follow an inclusive diversity calendar to engage the local community’s needs for education and growth.

Explain diverse concepts that impact the community as well as holding and/or facilitating diversity training. Our approach to diversity and promoting equality will be two fold.
