Such a sad sight to see for the town of Leek and our wonderful community 😔

One of Leeks most prominent landmarks in flames is awful.

A huge thought has to go to those who may have been evacuated in nearby buildings and the brave fire crews & emergency services tackling the blaze 🫶

Hopefully everybody was safe and nobody was hurt.

The skyline of Leek this morning will be a very different image 💔

Introducing our Funeral Director (Buxton)
Paul Machin

Paul has been a funeral director since 2015 developing a great understanding of every aspect of the role. He joined the David H Smith team in 2021 but is a more familiar face in Buxton at our Mellor & Smith funeral home, working closely with families to ensure each service is carried out with care and dignity. Paul is qualified to assist with our Golden Charter Pre-Paid Funeral Plans across both of our funeral homes and is committed to providing clear guidance and reassurance at every stage.

The news is full of wars and violence. This evening let's pray for peace and harmony. Here is St Francis's famous prayer:

O Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Good evening, friends, we have had a brilliant day at St Mary's!
This morning we were joined by students, their families and members of staff from Painsley Catholic College for the Family Mass. The young people were amazing! Let's give them courage to be informed by their faith, to value and take delight in their faith, and to let their faith be enthusiastic!
Let's all grow in faith!

Introducing our Office Manager
Annette Walker

Annette has worked in the funeral profession since 2014 and has been part of the David H Smith Funeral Directors team since 2018. A key member of our small team, she is often the first point of contact for bereaved families, providing calm reassurance, empathy, compassion and practical support during what can be an overwhelming time. A former Samaritan volunteer, Annette holds a qualification in Counselling and Funeral Care & Operations, bringing a thoughtful and compassionate approach to her role.
Annette also prepares orders of service and newspaper notices, and liaises with churches, crematoria, ministers, celebrants and caterers to help coordinate every aspect of the funeral service with care and attention to detail.
She works closely with families and colleagues to ensure every detail is handled with care, dignity and professionalism.

Mother’s Day can be a beautiful celebration of love, but for many it can also be a day of remembrance and reflection.

Today we hold in our thoughts everyone missing their mum, remembering a mother figure, or supporting someone who is grieving. The love shared with a mother never truly fades—it lives on in memories, stories, and the lives she helped shape.

To all mothers, grandmothers, and those who have taken on a motherly role, we send our warmest wishes today.
