I love magnesium. Truly. I’ve taken it on and off for about 10 years - ever since I realised it was the only thing that stopped my random leg cramps (you know, the ones that make you feel like your entire calf is trying to crush your bone) 🦴🙈

Most of my clients already take it too… but did you know, not all brands create magnesium supplements equally? 🫣

Here are 2 things you need to check with your magnesium supplement ⬇

1️⃣ Avoid supplements full of additives + fillers 💊

Supplements often contain lubricants, anti-caking agents and bulking agents to hold their shape or look “nice”. These ingredients can irritate the gut and trigger things like bloating, discomfort or diarrhoea. You’ll usually find them in the really cheap tablets. Cute for the manufacturer… not so cute for your body

2️⃣ Don’t be fooled by the dosage 📈

“1800mg magnesium compounds!” sounds impressive until you flip the packet and realise you’re getting a much smaller dose than you thought. Elemental magnesium = the amount your body can actually use (and that’s the number that matters)

Now… imagine if you didn’t have to guess 🤩

Imagine if your supplements were actually tailored to your symptoms, health history, goals and your budget (instead of you playing eenie-meenie-miney-mo in the supplement aisle) 👀

Struggling with chocolate cravings before your period… but also trying to “be good”? You don’t need to fight your hormones, just upgrade your chocolate 🍫

Welcome back to my weekly series where I share nutritionist-approved supermarket finds you can add to your weekly shop. No fear-mongering, no restriction… just simple upgrades that make eating well actually doable for busy (& hungry!) professionals.

This week’s pick: Hu Dark Chocolate (Sainsbury’s)

🍫 Why I rate it: Dark chocolate naturally contains magnesium - a mineral your body burns through in the lead-up to your period (hello cravings). The problem? Most chocolate brands pump in unnecessary sugar. Hu keeps things simple: fewer additives, higher cacao, better satisfaction. It hits the spot without the sugar spike!

🥄 I love to have 1–2 squares in the evening with a herbal tea (whilst watching Kath & Kim obvs 😆). It’s a small upgrade that satisfies the habitual post-meal “just a little something sweet” moment… just a little friendlier on my hormones 😉

Honestly, I thought I was entering my “cosy winter wellness girl” era… until my immune system said absolutely not 😂

🤒 Last week I flew to Oslo feeling under the weather and spent most of the trip feeling like I was swallowing actual nails

Was going away a great idea? Probably not.

Did I refuse to cancel another trip this year? Absolutely.

Did an infrared sauna with a DJ heal my soul anyway? Weirdly, yes. 🕺🏼

But here’s the bit I really want to land with you…

🦠 Winter is the season of slowing down, resting and nourishing… but most of us fight it like it’s a personal inconvenience. Then we’re shocked when we burn out or catch every bug going.

Your body isn’t being annoying, it’s asking for support.

To rest.

To say no.

To stop pretending you’re invincible because your Google calendar is full.

🧘🏼‍♀️ This little forced downtime has reminded me (for the 5,000th time) that health isn’t just supplements and kimchi - it’s actually listening when your body whispers before it starts shouting. Something I’ll be leaning into even more for 2026.

It feels like every week another woman is being told she has PCOS… and honestly, the support that comes after that diagnosis? Diabolical.

😮 Being told to “lose weight, take the pill and come back when you want to get pregnant” is not care. It’s not helpful. And it definitely doesn’t answer the questions like:

“Why am I so anxious all the time and have no energy?”

So here are the top 3 tests I recommend to my PCOS clients to finally get some clarity and start taking control back:

🧬 DUTCH Test
Think of this as the deep dive hormone test. It shows how your body actually produces, processes and clears hormones like oestrogen, testosterone and cortisol. It tells us why symptoms might be happening - not just that they’re happening

🩸 Comprehensive Blood Testing
This isn’t your standard GP panel. I’m talking vitamin D, SHBG, HbA1c, insulin, full thyroid panel and other key hormone markers. These give us a clear picture of blood sugar balance, inflammation and what may be driving high androgens

📊 HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis)
This test shows how your minerals are working behind the scenes. Minerals are basically the spark plugs for your hormones, metabolism and stress response. If they’re out, things like acne, fatigue, cravings and irregular cycles often follow

Struggling to stay full between meals… even though you swear you’re eating enough? This easy swap might be the fix 🍚👀

I'm starting a new weekly series where I share nutritionist approved supermarket finds, that you can add to your weekly shop. No fear-mongering, no restriction… just simple upgrades that make eating well actually doable for busy (& hungry!) professionals

This week’s pick: Lidl’s red and white quinoa pouch

😋 With just four ingredients (red quinoa, white quinoa, water and olive oil) this pick is UPF-free. Plus, it’s higher in protein and fibre than rice, which means more energy, feeling fuller for longer and happier bowels. Half a pack gives you around 25% of your daily fibre. Not bad for something that takes two minutes to heat!

😴 When I finish work late and need something quick, these are a cupboard lifesaver. Just tip it into a bowl to heat (skip the plastic!) and use it anywhere you’d use rice. I'm talking curries, stir-fry, salads, stuffed peppers… or do a half-rice/half-quinoa situation if that feels easier

Hot flushes. Night sweats. Feeling like you’re being microwaved from the inside out while your partner lies next to you whispering, “Babe… can we shut the window? I’m freezing.”

🥵 Up to 70% of women going through perimenopause experience vasomotor symptoms (aka those sudden, intense waves of heat). And they’re not just annoying… they’re sleep-wrecking, mood-twisting, confidence-shaking symptoms that make everyday life feel like an Olympic sport

Can we please normalise NOT skipping breakfast before our morning workouts…just because we “don’t have time”? 😅✨

🏋🏼‍♀️ I feel your pain… evening gym sessions are rough. You finish work, battle traffic, wait for free machines, then go home to cook a whole meal. Before you know it, your night’s gone and you’re going to bed with a full stomach 😩

So it totally makes sense that more people are switching to morning workouts instead 👏

💤 BUT… if you’re not fuelling your body before that session, you might be setting yourself up for a day of snacking, cravings and low energy

That’s where my Pre-Workout Yogurt Bars come in handy 💥 🙌

✨ You’ll need:
🍓 150g oats
🍓 80g dates (stones removed)
🍓 100g hot water
🍓 ½ tsp sea salt
🍓 ½ tsp Ceylon cinnamon
🍓 30g coconut oil
🍓 30g ground flaxseeds
🍓 100g frozen berries
🍓 200g 0% Greek yogurt
🍓 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)

✨ Method:
1️⃣ Add dates, coconut oil, cinnamon, salt + hot water to a bowl. Soak a few mins to soften, then mash together.
2️⃣ Add oats + flaxseeds, mix with your hands.
3️⃣ Press into a small baking tray.
4️⃣ Mix yogurt + lemon juice (if using), spread on top.
5️⃣ Heat berries until soft, layer over yogurt.
6️⃣ Freeze until solid
7️⃣ Cut into 6 bars + store in freezer.

👉 I like to microwave one for 20 seconds in the morning so it’s not too cold on my teeth (or tummy!) 😋

I’m not a morning person. Never have been and probably never will be 😅

But since moving towns, I’ve discovered the gyms get hella busy in the late afternoon. So, I’ve been experimenting with morning workouts. And my first thought was… what on earth do I eat before the gym at 7am? 😮

Now, as a Nutritional Therapist, I always tell my clients…

👉🏻 Please don’t exercise on an empty stomach.

👉🏻 Especially as a woman.

🏋🏼‍♀️ When you train fasted (aka not eating brekkie), your body thinks there’s no food around and it triggers a little internal stress response. Not ideal for your hormones or your energy!

🥞 But I get it, no one wants to faff about with breakfast on the best of days! So I designed a grab-and go breakfast for women who want to nourish their hormones AND fuel their morning workout

😔 There’s one catch guys… you do have to put a little prep together the night before (but I promise it’s worth it!!)

Somewhere a long time ago, fat got demonised. But the truth is, healthy fats are essential for our bodies, especially if you’re trying to support your hormones

🥑 Avocados, nuts, olive oil, salmon… these beauties don’t just taste good, they help to regulate hunger, stabilise blood sugar and even boost GLP-1 naturally (this is one of the hormones that control your appetite)

🥣I see so many clients still scared to have whole milk in their porridge or avoid hummus like it’s the plague. But your body needs fat. Your hormones are actually made from it and spoiler alert: those hormones are driving your appetite, energy and weight regulation 😅

It doesn’t take much! Add a thumb-sized portion of healthy fats to each meal and see how your satiety improves. You may even feel fuller, more energised and way less likely to faceplant into a multipack of crisps by 4pm
