Do you ever feel like everything is overwhelming, you don’t know where to start and the task feels so big and possibly complex that you feel you may never get there?

On reflection, life is like a jigsaw puzzle. Anytime you get overwhelmed or feel like quitting or giving up… take a few deep breaths… take breaks often… AND ask for help when you need it.

Break it down into small chunks, keep the big picture insight and when the goal is achieved sit back, celebrate and pat yourself on the back for your achievement and for persevering. Take time to rest before starting another puzzle.

Neuroscience shows that your brain is designed to predict the future. Your brains most important job is to protect your body and keep you alive, so it takes the data that it receives and asks itself ‘the last time I encountered a similar situation, what did I do next?’.

It draws on your past experiences of things that have happened to you or what you have learnt from other people, films, books etc. These past experiences include not only what happened in the world around you, but also what happened inside your body - so if you had butterflies in your stomach, a rapid heart rate etc, then your brain knows what it needs to do to help you survive. Unfortunately sometimes these emotions can snowball and have a debilitating effect on our lives.

The good news…. We can rewire our brain to change these patterns of behaviour and create new experiences. Hypnotherapy can help to create and strengthen new neural pathways to adjust the activity in response to situations.

What labels have you accepted that are limiting your growth, your perspective and preventing you from reaching your dreams?

It is time to re-assess what we tell ourselves we can achieve. We all want to belong, we all want to fit in, but during this process we put ourselves into a box that limits what we aim for.

Put those big girl/big boy pants on… consciously remove that label and see what else you can achieve! Take control and stop limiting your beliefs of what you can do.

You don’t plant a seed and then dig it up every five minutes to see if it’s grown. You plant it and nurture it, you water it, clear away the weeds – you are patient with it focussing on the certainty that it will grow into a beautiful flower.

You do the same in your head. Planting nice thoughts in your head, bloom and multiply.

Positive actions are often created with positive thoughts or patterns of positive behaviour. You nurture those positive pathways, and they get stronger to lead you to a calmer and happier way of life.

If you focus on things you have control over, our thoughts empower us which then trigger positive emotions. By putting your effort on what you can impact, you make an even bigger difference.

Some things that you can control are;

mindset – be positive, appreciate the small things and before responding to situations, ask yourself ‘what is a proper assessment of the situation’:

wellness – eating well, drinking water, sleeping well, being active each day, listening to uplifting music and avoiding negative news:

work ethic – you can determine what effort you put in:

the way you treat others – paying someone a compliment and being nice to others, not only makes them feel good, it releases happy chemicals in our brain.

Life really is 10% what happens to you and 90% of how you respond to it.

At night when we sleep, we re-run the events of the day and change them from being an emotional memory to a narrative memory – a memory we have control over; this is known as REM sleep. Unfortunately for one reason or another, REM is restricted to 20% of your sleep patterns and takes up a huge amount of energy.

If we get a good nights sleep, everything seems more bearable, easier to deal with – situations are more manageable. Without a good night of quality sleep, everyone tends to find their day so much more difficult to deal with.

One of the first benefits you will notice with hypnotherapy, is an improved quality of sleep.

Experts estimate that we have between 12,000 and 60,000 thoughts each day. What makes this worse is that 80% of them are negative and 95% of them are repetitive.

If we repeat those negative thoughts, we think negative way more than we think positive – causing imaginary drama in your mind. In turn this fills up your stress bucket and causes an overload of anxiety.

Set yourself some tasks for tomorrow, nothing major, just a few small jobs. Write them down and tick them off when you complete them. When you set a task you are releasing dopamine (the reward chemical), when you complete the task and tick it off your list, you are releasing an even bigger shot of dopamine which will encourage and motivate you even more.

Try this for a few days and see how motivated you feel.
