Secret to longevity

Linda Jackson, a reporter at Age UK Barnet, recently chatted with 91-year-old Ron who shared his life experiences and unique perspective.

Ron had his first near-death experience in 1938 when he caught diphtheria. The second was when a Doodlebug flew over Leytonstone stadium while he watched Arsenal play. The third was when he caught TB after he was demobbed.

Ron's great love has always been comedy. He even appeared in 'Britain's Got Talent'! He reckons that he didn't win because he likened the judges to Cinderella and the Ugly Sisters. 🎙️

Sharing the secret to longevity, Ron said that his sense of humour 'sustained him through life' as well as never smoking or drinking. 💜

Being able to travel by public transport can be a key factor in helping people with dementia retain their independence.

We can help by making it easier for someone to board, being patient while they find their bus pass or ticket, waiting for them to sit down and not pushing past.

Being aware of how you can behave to assist people affected by dementia in situations like this makes life easier for everyone, including those with other long-term conditions.
