If life feels a bit rocky at the moment, here are some ideas to help you feel more grounded.

⭐Get outside - look around you and connect back to nature, listen to the birds, notice that butterfly and look up into the sky.

⭐Use distraction - sort out that cupboard, complete a puzzle, clean your bathroom.

⭐Do something you enjoy - watch your favourite comfort show, painting, colouring, crafting or reading. Take that time out just for you.

⭐Keep connected with people or animals who mean something to you, maybe your pets, friends or family. This reminds you that you are not alone.

⭐Use mindfulness techniques - meditations, breathing techniques, being in the moment.

⭐Turn off the news, disconnect from doom scrolling and step away from social media. We aren't meant to be bombarded with information, especially when it's constant bad news.

Are there any tips you could offer others? What works for you?

❤️Breast Cancer Therapy Group❤️

✨Why do I want to set up this group?
I have worked within the area of breast cancer for a number of years (charities, NHS and Private Practice). As a therapist I undertook research during my MSc to find out about the impact of breast cancer during Covid-19. It was this research that has fuelled my passion project to create a community for those impacted by breast cancer.

✨What is my experience in facilitating groups?
With a background in teaching, I have planned, organised, and facilitated numerous groups both for adults and children. I have completed a creative course with that has helped me to develop these skills further and apply it therapeutically. I am excited to work with clients in a therapeutic and creative capacity.

✨Outline of the 6 Week Course - I have designed a 6 Week Course that matches the themes that I discovered in my research. In these sessions, we will work as a group to explore the experience of breast cancer, process emotions, and share thoughts. We will use creative techniques to process these experiences. The therapist will share psychoeducation to help you make sense of your journey. There will be relaxation techniques and coping strategies included. These sessions will include refreshments and time to chat at the end to encourage a sense of community.

Session 1 – Theme: Establishing group connection and shared values. Expressing emotions and experiences.
Session 2 - Theme: Navigating challenges during treatment. Identifying and overcoming obstacles.
Session 3 -Theme: Managing anxiety and worry.
Session 4 - Theme: Processing grief and change.
Session 5 - Theme: Connection and support systems. Finding strength in Community
Session 6 - Theme: Building resilience through self-care. Honouring the journey whilst embracing new beginnings.

Today I carried out a workshop on behalf of at for their stepping stones group. We discussed all things anxiety and I shared many coping strategies. I was able to explain how anxiety works and the impact on the body. We explored different techniques to manage anxiety, one of these was the use of a transitional object for support. This can be a stone, crystal, shell, jewellery, something sentimental or meaningful. What triggers anxiety for you? How do you feel it, in your body? What are your coping strategies? If you need support for anxiety then please get in touch, email: celia.allan.counselling@gmail.com

Working creatively using a sand tray allows the unconscious to surface. Clients place different objects into the tray to represent a process for them. This isn't just for children to use but adults can find a sense of freedom in the playfulness of sand. It's amazing what can be uncovered and discovered by the client. I facilitate this work by helping the client process using questioning. Have you ever worked in this way?

This week is Children's Mental Health Week with the focus on my place, I always feel calm, relaxed and soothed at the beach. It's a place that helps me be mindful, I can use my senses and that soothes my nervous system. Where is your place? What place makes you feel safe, calm and at peace? 'smentalhealthweek

Why use collages in therapy? Working in a creative way can help to unlock the unconscious. Creating something that you struggle to put into words can help you to express and process what is going on for you. Images, words, pictures and patterns can say so much! When I offer this way of working it's not about me and what I expect to see, it's about you as the client and what these images say to you.

Book recommendation - this was recommended to me from my own supervisior because we were talking about self care. I managed to find it on Vinted and it's a lovely little book which you can dip in and out of. Loots of great ideas to help you stay mindful and be in the present, ideas I can use for my clients but also myself. As a therapist we also need to have a self care tool kit so I will be using these ideas to look after myself too. Highly recommend!

I saw this lovely little robin in my local garden centre and watched as it perched on the side looking around. To me robins are a symbol of hope. What is your symbol of hope as we go into this new year? What can you hold on to that gives you a sense of hope as this new year begins? What will give you strength as we start 2026?
