Our thinking errors can keep us trapped, black and white thinking keeps us stuck in an all or nothing thinking pattern. We can negatively label ourselves or others and this can mean we hold ourselves back. When we compare ourselves to others in life it's such an unfair comparison, we might think they have it all together, they never worry or make mistakes. We only see what people want us to see or what we want to see, our perception is often bias and self critical. Our thoughts say, "they know what they are doing" "they are better than me" "I'm useless" "I'm a failure".

How do we become unstuck?
We firstly need to notice these patterns and see when we are falling into the trap. Like these spiders stuck in the web, what is triggering us to fall into our own web of stuckness? Then we need to offer ourselves compassion and think about what you would say to a friend who had these thoughts. Maybe you would say "you are doing your best" "you don't need to be perfect" "it's good enough".

The next time you fall into these patterns, think about the compassionate part of yourself and what you need to hear.

Today was the start of my creative supervision course with . Great to get back to learning again and start this supervision course for the next 8 weeks. Excited to learn new skills to take into my own supervision, therapy work and bring to spaces when offering clinical supervision. I am inspired by the wonderful supervision I have experienced already as a therapist and can't wait to take this new learning forward to support others.

Saying hello to October today...it definitely felt like Autumn. We notice the changes all around us. Leaves are falling, conkers dropping off trees reminding me of childhood days, darker evenings and crisp mornings. Change can mean so many things and with change letting go of things that are holding us back can be something that helps with encouraging growth. What can you let go of? What is no longer serving you? What will help you to grow as a person and be who you want to be?

My therapy space is designed to help you feel calm and comfortable. I will always have a drink ready for you and tissues if you need them. If you want to wrap yourself up in a blanket there is a choice of these too. I want to provide a space that is confidential, safe and compassionate.

Sometimes when we are trying to get to sleep our mind won't switch off. All these negative thoughts come when we just want to get to sleep. Try this technique of imaging the thoughts on a fluffy cloud, you are not trying to squash the thought but instead acknowledging it's there but allow it to float away. This technique can be used in different situations for instance when you are concentrating on something and the negative thoughts keeps interrupting you.

Are you on high alert like this meerkat? With everything that is going on in the world at the moment it wouldn't be surprising. From the news that we are bombarded with to images being shown on our social media, we are just overwhelmed with information that our nervous system can't cope with. What can we do about this? Well things like grounding techniques such as using our senses, breathing techniques or taking that walk outside and turning off the news and not doom scrolling on our phones. The idea here is about trying to activate our soothing system to help us to regulate our emotions. What helps you to feel safe, calm and relaxed?

There are times in life we cross over the bridge to new beginning...we leave behind what doesn't serve us anymore. This can feel scary, brave, wonderful but also anxiety provoking. A whole mixture of emotions.

I often work with clients who are standing on the bridge ready to walk over to the other side but they just need reassurance and support whilst acknowledging the loss of what has been left behind.

I can do this empathetically because I've stood on that bridge myself and understand the confusion, anxiety, sadness and bravery that is needed to take the steps to get to the other side.

Know that we can take those steps together, you don't have to do it alone. Send me a message if you would like support ❤️

When it comes to self care, what works for you? When you have had a heavy day and need to decompress what do you need to do? For me it's going on a long walk, I did 4 hours the other evening and I loved every minute of it even if I was moaning about the stinging nettles on a particularly bad part of the walk! It made me feel calm, relaxed and peaceful. Everybody's self -care looks different and you might hate the idea of a walk but that's ok, it's important to find what works for you. What do you do for self-care?

Goodbye to June and the end of another month. How has it treated you? What are you looking forward to in July? For me it's about rest, taking the time to reflect on the year so far and what is ahead.
