This week is Sexual Violence and Abuse Awareness Week.

So, what is s*xual violence? Sexual violence is the general term used to describe any kind of unwanted s*xual act or activity. This can include:
➡️ R**e, which is pe*******on of the va**na, a**s or mouth with a p***s without consent.
➡️ Sexual assault which is any act of unwanted s*xual contact including r**e
➡️ Domestic abuse – an abusive relationship which may involve s*xual violence
➡️ Sexual abuse which involves being forced into s*xual activity, including online grooming and s*xual exploitation.
➡️ Female Ge***al Mutilation (FGM).
➡️ Sexual harassment, which is any unwanted behaviour of a s*xual nature. This can include:
↪️ Sexual comments or jokes or gestures
↪️ Intrusive staring
↪️ Intimate image abuse (revenge p**n)
↪️ Indecent exposure – including flashing in person or cyberflashing (sending unwanted nudes)

📢 Change of Provider for Testing Kits ℹ️

From today, the provider of our online services has changed from SH:24 to SH.UK. This includes STI testing kits, contraception pills and emergency contraception.

This will not affect the service you receive, only the site where you order from. The STI test kits will test for the same infections, including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and HIV. They are sent in plain packaging and are free to order and post back.

For more information on the new provider, visit the https://orlo.uk/KVHni website.

Any tests ordered via SH:24 before 1st February will still be processed.

The team at BrookCharity have some great information about consent on their website, including an entire page busting myths!

One myth they share is:
❌ “If your body is turned on, then you are giving consent.” ❌

The truth:
Sometimes people’s bodies will be turned on even though they do not want to engage in s*xual activity. It is common to get an er****on at times when you don’t want to have s*x.

Even if your p***s is erect or your v***a is wet – you do not have to have s*x if you do not want to. Physical changes in the body can be a sign that someone is aroused, but this is not always the case. Also, someone might be feeling aroused but still not want to take part in a s*xual activity, and this is fine.

Physical arousal is not an invitation to have s*x or a sign that someone gives their consent.

STIs can be spread through all types of s*x. Here are some tips to make s*x safer and reduce the chance of getting an STI:

✅ Use condoms for oral s*x on a p***s
✅ Use water-based or silicone-based l**e with condoms
✅ Use dams for oral s*x on a va**na or an a**s
✅ If using s*x toys - use a new condom on a toy between each partner or body opening, or wash toys between each use, each partner or body opening
✅ Avoid oral s*x if you or your partner(s) have sores on their mouth, ge***als or a**s

Condoms help to protect against s*xually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancies.

There are two different types of condoms:

Condoms which are worn on the p***s (external condoms)
Condoms which are worn inside the va**na (internal condoms)

Condoms are the only method of contraception that help prevent STIs as well as unintended pregnancies.
