It's tomorrow - an opportunity to educate ourselves on the difference between HIV and AIDS.

HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is a virus that damages the cells in your immune system and weakens your ability to fight everyday infections and disease.

AIDS (acquired immune deficiency syndrome) is the name for a collection of serious illnesses caused by the HIV virus. AIDS is now often called late-stage or advanced HIV. In the UK, most people being treated for HIV do not develop late-stage HIV.

Early diagnosis is key to living a healthy life with HIV, and the only way to know if you have HIV is get tested.

Recently had a baby?

You can get pregnant from 3 weeks (21 days) after giving birth. This can happen before you have a period, even if you're breastfeeding.

Some types of contraception can be used immediately after giving birth. For some other types, it’s recommended to wait for a few weeks.

You can talk to your GP, health visitor or s*xual health clinic about contraception at any time.

Wondering which contraception options are best for reducing period pain?

Many people find that their periods are much less painful when they are using hormonal contraception.

Hormonal contraception works by levelling the normal ups and downs of the body's hormones, and by stopping an egg being released (ovulation). This keeps the lining of the womb thin which reduces the pain when it comes away (a period).

Hormonal methods include:
➡️ Implant
➡️ Injection
➡️ Hormonal Coil / IUS
➡️ Combined Pill
➡️ Progestogen-only Pill
➡️ Patch
➡️ The Vaginal Ring

Consent must be given for each s*xual act.

Just because someone has agreed to one kind of s*x or touching, it doesn't mean they are agreeing to everything.

And don't forget, consent needs to be an enthusiastic "YES!" without pressure ✅

African Caribbean Health & Wellbeing Day 2025 🌿

We’re excited to announce our full list of exhibitors for this year’s Health & Wellbeing Day, bringing together organisations dedicated to improving Black health across Leicester.

But that’s not all…
We will also have a major HEAL-D workshop at 12:15 PM, hosted by the University of Leicester team. This is an African & Caribbean diabetes programme designed to give our community the knowledge, confidence, and practical tools to manage diabetes through healthy eating, active lifestyles, and culturally relevant support.

This is a BIG one - especially as we’ll be launching a community-based 8-session HEAL-D programme with the African Heritage Alliance in January 2026. If diabetes affects you or someone you love, you won’t want to miss this.

On the day you can expect:
🍲 Free Caribbean buffet (Halal)
🧘🏾‍♀️ Workshops & classes
💬 Health information & advice
🩺 Screenings & testing
🌟 Full exhibitor marketplace
🎶 Vibrant atmosphere & cultural connection

📅 Friday 21 November 2025
🕚 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
📍 African Caribbean Centre, LE2 0UA

Hosted by African Heritage Alliance in partnership with Pamela Campbell-Morris Health Awareness Alliance (Highfield Rangers FC).

This event is all about breaking barriers, tackling inequalities, and empowering our community to take charge of our wellbeing. 💛
