Meet Abu, an amazing and young boy I met during my time in Zanzibar. Abu attends all his physiotherapy sessions with the support of his dedicated mother and father, and over time, he has made remarkable progress through consistent effort and engagement.

Unfortunately, Abu is faced with many barriers that prevent him from being able to thrive. Abu needs equipment to help him sit and stand that in order for him to be able to go to school and engage in learning.

With limited equipment available, Abu's parents options are limited to approaching local carpenters in the hope they can create a makeshift frame. Without appropriate support, Abu's progress will always be limited. This is vastly different to the UK where children can access custom made equipment if necessary.

Children like Abu depend on incredibly hard working individuals and organisations like to give them the support they need. But resources are always stretched.

My time in Zanzibar has given me a sense of gratitude for what we have in the UK and I admire the abosolute devotion that physiotherapists in Zanzibar put into supporting young children.

Thank you to Abu's family for permitting me to share his story. ❤️
