Yoga for The Special ChildKay offers yoga for special needs children in Leicester & Leicestershire.Kay has trained with the Special Yoga Centre in Yoga for the Special Child®LLC – The Sonia Sumar Method is a comprehensive programme of Yoga techniques designed to enhance the natural development of children and young people with special needs, ranging from those with conditions on the Autistic spectrum, ADHD & ADD, to children with Downs syndrome, Muscular Dystrophy, Cystic Fibrosis and many other physically limiting conditions.This therapeutic programme includes an integrated series of balanced yoga poses that increase body awareness, strength and flexibility. The aim is also to guide a child to find more peace within themselves.Specialised breathing exercises and relaxation techniques improve concentration and reduce hyperactivity.At the start of each child’s yoga therapy programme the parent fills in a baseline form, which be followed up by evaluation forms measuring any improvements in the child’s situation in various aspects of their life. This is reviewed and compared periodically to measure change in the child’s behaviour and physical ability.When used therapeutically and mindfully, yoga is an invaluable tool to enhance a child’s capacity to learn, build confidence and reach potential.Kay offers one-to-one sessions either at her practice or in a child’s home and small group sessions in schools to support children who have physical difficulties and/or behavioural challenges, such as Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) or Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).Benefits of a regular yoga practice include:Increased emotional stabilityImproved concentrationImproved self regulationAnd improved self-esteem, promoting an overall sense of wellbeing.
