🔍Know the Signs – Spot Cancer Early🔍

Abdominal and urological cancers can be difficult to detect early, but knowing what to look out for could save your life or someone else's.

If you notice any of the following symptoms, don’t ignore them:

✅ Abdominal pain or lump
✅ Blood in your urine or poo
✅ Changes in bowel habits (diarrhoea, constipation, or going more often)
✅ Painful urination

These signs might not always mean cancer, but it’s important to get checked. Early diagnosis makes a big difference.

💩Have you done your bowel screening test yet?

Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UK – but early detection saves lives. That’s why the NHS offers a free home test kit to people aged 50 to 74 every two years.

🧪 What is it?
It’s a simple test called a FIT kit (Faecal Immunochemical Test) that checks for tiny traces of blood in your poo – which can be an early sign of bowel cancer.

📬 How does it work?
-You’ll get a kit in the post
-Collect a small sample of poo using the stick provided
-Pop it in the prepaid envelope and send it off
-That’s it! Quick, clean, and easy

📅 Done yours yet?
If you’ve received your kit, don’t put it off. It only takes a few minutes and could save your life.

📞 If you’re 75 or over, you can still request a kit by calling 0800 707 60 60.

Think a prostate cancer check means a “finger up the bum”? Think again. The first step is actually a simple blood test – called a PSA test – and it could save your life.

💉 What’s a PSA Test?
It checks for Prostate Specific Antigen levels in your blood. Raised levels can be a sign of prostate cancer – or other prostate conditions. It’s quick, easy, and done with a standard blood sample.

🚫 What about the re**al exam?
You don’t need a digital re**al exam (DRE) to get checked. In fact, leading experts and the NHS now say it’s not a reliable test for prostate cancer and can miss signs that an MRI would catch. It’s outdated and can put men off seeking help.

✅ What happens next?
If your PSA levels are raised, your GP may refer you for an MRI scan – a much more accurate way to check for prostate cancer.

🎯 Bottom line?
You can ask your GP for a PSA blood test without needing a physical exam. Don’t let myths stop you from taking care of your health.

💬 Share this to help more men feel confident about getting checked.

Do you know what to expect at your breast screening appointment?🩷

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we’re here to help you feel confident and informed about your health.

If you’ve been invited for a breast screening appointment, here’s what you can expect:
🩺 Your Appointment:
➖You’ll be greeted by a female mammographer who will check your details and ask if you’ve had any breast problems.
➖You’ll undress from the waist up in a private changing area. You may be given a gown to wear.
➖The mammographer will explain the process and answer any questions you have.

📸 The Mammogram:
➖Each breast is gently placed on an X-ray machine and compressed between two plates for a few seconds.
➖You’ll have 4 X-rays in total – 2 for each breast.
➖The whole appointment usually takes about 30 minutes.

💬 Things to Know:
➖The procedure can be uncomfortable, but it’s quick and the staff are trained to support you.
➖You can ask to stop at any time.
➖Your results will be sent to you by post.

✅ Top Tips:
➖Wear a top and trousers/skirt (not a dress) for easier un******ng.
➖Avoid talc or spray deodorant on the day – roll-on is fine.
➖Remove necklaces and ni**le piercings before your appointment.

Breast screening saves lives by detecting cancer early – even before symptoms appear. If you’ve been invited, please attend.

💗Let’s talk about it. Let’s normalise it. Let’s protect our health.
