Staying Safe in Hot Weather:

While many people enjoy the warmer summer months, hot weather can cause some individuals to become unwell. Common risks include overheating, dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke.

To stay safe:

Avoid the sun during peak hours: Stay indoors between 11am and 3pm, when the sun is at its strongest.

Plan physical activity wisely: Schedule outdoor exercise or physical work for the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or evening.

Keep your home cool: Close windows and draw curtains in sun-facing rooms to help lower indoor temperatures.

Dress appropriately if going outside: Wear light, loose-fitting clothing, a hat, and UV-protective sunglasses. Use
sunscreen regularly.

Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Try to limit alcohol intake, as it can increase dehydration.

Check on others: Look out for family, friends, and neighbours, especially those who are elderly, very young, or have underlying health conditions, as they may be more vulnerable to heat.

By taking these simple precautions, you can help protect yourself and others during periods of hot weather.
