First and foremost, hope everyone is safe and well.

Secondly, we'd like to apologise as we have been quiet over the last few months. The Covid-19 outbreak has affected our personal lives as it probably has for many of you aswell.

However, we are BACK and with the aim to IMPROVE and HELP as many as possible in these hard times. Especially as most people have not been able to receive any help during the lock-down period.
We have launched a new platform to enable us to carry out FREE CONSULTATION & TREATMENT over video call F2F.

We will be able to track your progress and assist all virtually. We can also set daily tasks so you can get regular updates on how well you’re doing. Our aim is to get you back to a HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE.

Additionally, we will be posting an EXERCISE SERIES, and are open to suggestions on any injury or exercise related questions in which we can make a post about.

We're awaiting on clear further instructions from the government, and once we're all set up safely we will open the doors for our clients to come into the clinic. Till then our consultations/treatments will be online.

PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD AS WE ARE HERE TO HELP!

SHOULDER DISLOCATION (SUBLUXATION)
⬇️⬇️

Basic Anatomy!
➡️ The shoulder Region is made up of the humerus (upper arm bone), the scapula (shoulder blade) and the clavicle (collar bone)
➡️ It has the biggest range of motion than any other joint in the body thanks to its ball and socket type joint
➡️ The head of the humerus fits into the shallow socket of the glenoid fossa (the scapula) and at the ends of these bones lies an articular cartilage substance which enables for easy shoulder movement 👍
➡️ The glenoid is also covered with strong 💪 fibrous cartilage called the labrum which circles around the ring to provide stability and absorbent to the joint

That's the basic description 📄 however the shoulder region is much more complicated 🤯 as it has ligaments tendons nerves bursa's and muscles which attach to it for true stability.

⬇️⬇️

The mechanics forl shoulder dislocation is quite simple as the head of the upper arm bone can easily slip out of the shallow socket in the shoulder blade 😖. This usually happens when the arm is moving in an upwards rotation phase which we call (abduction). 🙋‍♂️

⚠️Signs and symptoms⚠️ of Shoulder dislocation
- Inflammation
- Swelling
- Pain
- Bruising
- Tenderness

➡️ This common type of injury can be caused by;

1️⃣ Insidous injuries (sudden impact)
2️⃣ Overuse movement at the shoulder joint
3️⃣ Forceful movements against resistance

A PAIN IN THE BUTT‼️

Proximal Hamstring Tendinopathy

⭕️ Where is it located?

It is also known as High Hamstring Tendinopathy. It is an injury of the hamstring tendon found where all the hamstring muscles (semimembranosus, semitendinosus, and the bicep femoris) originate from the ischial tuberosity of the pelvic bone. (As highlighted in the images).

⭕️ Why does it happen?

It is a degenerative process caused by mechanical overloading and repetitive stretch.
Lack of flexibility, weak hamstring muscles and imbalances of the hamstring to quadriceps ratio is often the case that leads to chronic tendinopathy.

Poor lumbopelvic stability is another reason why it can cause irritability to the tendon.

⭕️ Signs & symptoms:

Pain is often found in the posterior aspect of the leg particularly in the lower buttock area where hamstring muscles originate.

During hip flexion and knee extension it produces pain symptoms.

Commonly occurs in long distance runners, athletics (hurdlers, jumpers) and even in running sports such as football. Other causes are during prolonged sitting (e.g. long distance driving).

We will do a follow up post to show couple exercises and stretches to help you!

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms then book yourself in or message us as our experienced therapists can provide full assessment and non operative treatment options.

➡️➡️LOW BACK PAIN⬅️⬅️

▶️Low back pain is very common in the current time we live in, whether people suffer from sporting background ⛹️‍♂️ or even from sitting at a desk for 8 hours a day 💻

▶️When people attend our clinic for low back pain issues, we notice that there is a high percentage of people suffering from SCIATICA. The sciatic nerve is actually the largest nerve in the body 😯 which branches out at the hip specifically (lumbosacral spine) and follows all the way down to the foot.

So, here are 3 examples of how sciatic pain can be caused;

- CAUADA EQUINA - This can be caused due to traumatic or insideous injuries or in layman's terms a direct blow in sport for example colliding with an opposing player in team sports or falling awkwardly on your lower back from a jump. Other causes can arise in elderly people who suffer from arthritic joints around the vertebrae. Thirdly repetitive trauma in sport especially in weight lifting 🏋️ and gymnastics 🤸‍♂️ , the constant repetitive movements will apply a lot of pressure and load to the sciatic nerve.

- SPONDYLOLISTHESIS - This is caused due to the curvature of the lumbar spine and it is where the vertebral body slips out due to hyperextension of the lumbar spine. The vertebral body will commonly slip out in front and impinge the sciatic nerve causing pain on the lower back and down the back of the leg.

- PR*****ED DISC (HERNAITED VERTEBRAL DISC) - In between each vertebral body there is a vertebral disc, and inside the disc lies a fluid type tissue called the nucleus pulposis. This is to absorb shock and have flamboyance in the spine . Again, due to hyperextension of the lumbar spine the nucleus pulposis is forced out of the vertebral body impinging the sciatic nerve causing pain on the buttocks and down the back of the leg.

📢ATTENTION📢
If you feel like you suffer from low back pain and think that you may have some or all of the symptoms above then there are 2 tests that you can do to find a relief of the sciatic nerve;

1. THE SLUMP TEST
2. STRAIGHT LEG RAISE TEST

▶️At VitalSportsTherapy we also have additional ways of rehabilitating sciatic pain to make sure the symptoms don't arise again. Treatments can include;

- Nerve Mobilisation
- Joint Mobilisation
- Joint Manipulation
- Myofascial Release
- Back stretching and strengthening exercises
