Get the right care, in the right place

We need to keep our Emergency Department (ED) for people who need life-saving care.

When you come to the ED and don’t need emergency treatment, to ensure you get the right care we will:
• book you a same-day appointment at a local Urgent Treatment Centre, or
• guide you to another off-site service that’s right for your needs

Please remember:
• Pharmacy – for quick advice and medicines
• Your GP – for ongoing or non-urgent problems
• NHS 111 – for 24/7 advice on what to do and where to go when it is urgent but not an emergency

Visit this website to find the right care for you: https://leicesterleicestershireandrutland.icb.nhs.uk/your-health/find-the-right-service/

Thank you for helping us make sure the ED is there for those who need it most.

Meet one of our amazing finalists in the 2025 UHL Recognition Awards.

This year we received a record 750+ nominations, with 14 teams and 45 individuals making the shortlist. Today, we’re celebrating Dr Anika Tahsin, nominated for Young Adult Learner of the Year.

Anika’s nomination shines with praise from colleagues, supervisors, and patients alike. She’s been recognised for her initiative, leadership, empathy, and the way she makes patients feel respected and at ease.

“It made me very happy, but it was a surprise at the same time. I certainly didn’t expect it, having only started here a year ago,” she told us.

With aspirations to specialise in surgery, Anika is already inspiring peers and patients with her dedication and passion for learning.

Congratulations to Anika on this well-deserved recognition and to all our incredible shortlist. Winners will be announced at the UHL Recognition Awards ceremony on 3 October at Athena, Leicester.

UHL’s anaesthetics departments have been presented with plaques to honour their success in earning Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation (ACSA) from the Royal College of Anaesthetists.

The accreditation covers services at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital, Glenfield Hospital, Melton Mowbray Hospital and Loughborough Hospital. ACSA accreditation requires adherence to 160 evidence-based standards.

Prea Ramasamy, Consultant Anaesthetist and ACSA Lead at UHL, said: “This has been a major journey to meet the high standards needed, and we wouldn’t have been able to achieve it without the contributions, commitment and resilience of colleagues from across our sites, and UHL in the community.”
