UHL colleagues visited Westminster to take part in a roundtable discussion exploring strategies to retain NHS staff, particularly those from diverse and ethnic minority backgrounds.

Professor Manish Pareek and Chief People Officer, Clare Teeney attended the event, which brought together experts to share evidence-informed research that could help to develop policies at national and local levels.

Professor Pareek summarised evidence from his ongoing work on the I-CARE project, which aims to support the sustainability of a diverse NHS workforce by improving understanding of how and why NHS staff from minority groups leave or stay in their jobs.

We’re delighted to share another New Year’s arrival with you.

Congratulations to proud parents Vipuja and Senthuran, who were among the first parents to welcome their little one in 2026.

Their new baby arrived at 03:28am, weighing 6lb 1oz, and is one of the six babies born at the Leicester Royal Infirmary today, with another four delivered at the Leicester General Hospital, on a busy day for our hard-working maternity teams.

Thank you to all our colleagues working this New Year’s Day. Your kindness and care make a difference today, and every day.

A new baby to bring in the New Year!

Baby Remaya-Jay was one of the first babies born at the Leicester Royal Infirmary in 2026 when she arrived today at 4:06am, weighing 6lb 6oz. She arrived a little earlier than expected, and proud parents Leia and Ryan are looking forward to introducing her to big brother Reilly-Ray.

Congratulations to all our families who have welcomed new arrivals, and a big thank you to our maternity teams for the care and kindness they show every day.
