We all have vulnerabilities and challenges we have to face, and knowing in our hearts that we’re stronger than we give ourselves credit for can help us stay positive.
We must also learn to accept offers of help from others (thanks Kev!) as it strengthens our trust that we are not on our own.
I had to have an operation on my shoulder and although I feel shattered and weak and had to learn to do a lot of things with my left hand instead of the right one, I know I can overcome more than I had thought.
Happy weekend everyone.

ANNA ASKS:
What do you find yourself saying in your mind when you are organising a less-frequent event?

The more conscious we are of our self-talk the easier we can change it from negative to positive.

It’s a bit like an outfit that we haven’t worn for a while, so we are not really sure what accessories could go with it well. If we keep saying we haven’t got anything to go with it, the less likely we are going to find pieces that match the style and the colour of what we are planning to wear.

It is possible to get into the swing of things easily, but the detail that is really going to make a BIG difference is what we say to ourselves.

ANNA’S ANSWER:

We had invited a few of my husband’s family members to come to have a catch-up over the weekend, which in itself is not a particularly complex meet-up.
But this time my husband’s 90-year old step-dad was coming too, and with him having been quite frail in recent months, it was playing on my mind how to best make it comfortable for everyone.

I caught myself saying in my mind: this could be a very exhausting day.
I could feel my body feeling the tiredness as I was saying it, even before the guests even arrived.
I wasn’t sure how to prepare best so it’s not too pre-planned but still wanted to give it some thought to make it enjoyable for everyone.

I was pleased I had realised what I was saying to myself, because I decided to have some downtime to sit and relax before everyone arrived.

Here are the pictures of me before the start, able to put my feet up for almost an hour, able to say it with conviction that it was going to be a good event. And then enjoying some relaxing time afterwards.

I was too busy to take photos during the event, and yes, I was a little tired afterwards, but I managed to look forward to it and we all enjoyed the catch-up very much.

Do you remember the series ‘You are what you eat’?

It’s the same with our thoughts: You are what you think.

Our thoughts carry incredible power to create change.
Negative or positive, and we free to choose whichever way is the best way for us.

It might be good to pause here, just to have a little moment to reflect on this.

The moment we realise that we can make changes, and we do not need anyone’s permission or action to do this, can be really liberating.

You are what you think.

ANNA ASKS:
What is your automatic response to meeting someone who is better than you at something?

Our self-esteem can become fragile when we realise that someone else is cleverer, knows more or is able to navigate a specific situation better.

It could easily stem from being compared to someone else when we were growing up.

Looking back at it we may understand that this does not mean that we are not good enough, but inside we may have a very critical perception of ourselves.

Sometimes this can lead to always being over-judgmental about our skills and seeing ourselves as lacking in something.

It’s very easily done, and if done frequently, guess what: it becomes habitual and automatic. It is very common irrespective of where you are in life, but it can also lead to lack of confidence in pursuing life’s dreams and desires.

Knowing this is a pattern in our lives is a great start, and we also need something deeper for the habit to change and for us to be able to flourish.

One of the ways to address this is to be curious, listening to what someone has to say and absorb the knowledge that comes from our contact with that person.

This way we shift our focus away from our ‘lack’ to ‘how can I learn more about this?’

ANNA’S ANSWER:
I used to be compared to my older sister when I was very young. She was older than me and always well-organised whatever she decided to do, effortlessly able to plot her steps in life with intention, while I preferred to dress up my dolls in different outfits and pretend that I was a princess lol.

I have since recognised that while my organisation skills could still be better, I am able to watch others and learn skills to become more efficient with my time, and at the same I acknowledge the positives of less serious ways to enjoy being in the moment.
Result? A balance of serious and less serious activities in my life as well as a better understanding that we are all different rather than believing that I ‘lack’ something.

I am aware that this is a journey rather than an immediate change, but with curiosity we can begin to create positive habits that allow us to thrive in any area of our life.

ANNA ASKS:
What do you remember having a surprisingly positive ending despite a stressful beginning?

ANNA’S ANSWER:
I did a first-ever sewing course last weekend. It started slow and we were all having a good laugh, but very quickly it developed into a very intense day.

There was so much to learn and so many details to retain, I was close to walking out before the end of the first hour. Nothing to do with the lovely lady who ran the course, but my head was spinning with all the information on how to cut the material and how to set up the electric sewing machine ready for use. It was only to make pyjama bottoms but the amount of information I had never heard of before was A LOT!

I stuck with it though, encouraged by the tutor who must have noticed my jaw on the floor, and came over to make sure I was following the steps safely.

I managed to cut the material following the pattern without losing any of my fingers, , sow the correct pieces together, overlock the edges and create a tunnel for elasticated band to go into.

It was exhausting, but having used the sewing machine several times for different pieces over the duration of the course, and seeing the end result looking fairly decent gave me a huge confidence boost and a feeling of elation. I could sew!!!

We all have powerful and resilient brains, and yes, learning a new skill starts with stress, anxiety and sometimes a feeling of not being able to cope, but the more we persevere the more we realise not only that we can learn a new skill fairly quickly, but also benefit from a huge boost in self-esteem.

I love receiving testimonials from my clients, not because it’s ego-stroking, but to show to others how deep the change can be and how wonderful one might feel as a result.

Testimonials are also a useful way for others to learn what a therapist has dealt with. This can build a valuable picture of what results are possible to achieve.

I am pleased to present how this particular client felt after just one session of Reiki treatment, and I am truly thrilled this person had enjoyed it so much.

Here it is:
"I thoroughly enjoyed my Reiki session with Anna. She was warm, welcoming, and instantly put me at ease. The treatment felt deeply nourishing, and I could sense a lightness spreading through different parts of my body.
It was truly nurturing and meaningful."

I’m going to be a little controversial here…
We don’t have to go on a retreat to benefit from a retreat experience.

I get it. It’s very seductive.
It promises sunshine and laughter, and major transformations.

I had to step away for a few days last week because of feeling a wobble.
Cancelled several meetings.
I have no pretty picture to show for it because I stayed at home, but I knew that that was what I needed.

We often think we need to “go away” to find calm, a retreat, a weekend workshop, a mountain cabin in the woods. And while those experiences can be deeply nourishing, there’s a quieter truth we don’t often talk about:
You don’t always need to go far to come back to yourself.

Taking a break on your own, even close to home, can be just as potent as joining a retreat. Why? Because it’s not always about the place, it’s about the pause, the permission, and the presence you give yourself.

You don’t always need a retreat.

I invite you to read my blog to find out the powerful benefits of a quiet and calming break by yourself, even just for a few hours, can restore your nervous system, reset your perspective, and offer something many organised retreats miss: agency.
I’ve written about why these solo moments can be more powerful than a full weekend away, including 3 reasons you might not expect.

Does anyone else shed a tear when your client says thank you so powerfully?

I love working with clients and I feel honoured to be able to help them:

Let go of fears that might have been there maybe even many years.

Start managing their anxiety

Calm down the unhelpful chatter in their heads

Think clearly

Build confidence to be themselves and to make decisions that help them be true to themselves

It brings me such joy to help them go out with a smile and enjoy life.

Still it brings tears to my eyes to see them happy.
I’m just a big kid inside really, so happy for them.

Energy… it has so many different meanings in our lives!

I discovered some yesterday.

I did a little bit of gardening.
Noting massive I can only dab into it in small dosages.
I felt the warming Energy of the sun and it nudged me to step out into the garden.

I took it easy. Only did small baby steps.
And didn’t change all the pots even though some definitely need to go now.

But I can’t do everything all at once, it takes too much of my own Energy…

But still, after a few pots were revived with fresh evergreen plants and flowers, the whole garden’s Energy changed.

The garden kind of came alive.

It lifted.

A lovely kind of Energy.
Energy of newness and colourfulness, the one that helps you breathe and relax.

When do you become mindful of energy around you?

Isn't it wonderful when the sun shines brightly for more than one day? lol

It was really lovely over the weekend to see not only nature in the form of flowers and leaves springing out to check out the sunshine, but also more people are out and about lazily enjoying the warmth and topping up the levels of Vitamin D.

It is true that more and more of us are looking more persistently down on our phones rather than up and chatting to others, and there are other factors that can have detrimental effects on our ability to enjoy connecting with others, but there are strategies anyone can employ that can start to make interacting with others easier again.
