We are currently experiencing difficulties with phone calls into our hospitals, following similar issues yesterday. If you are trying to call us, you may be unable to connect.

If you are less than 32 weeks pregnant and need to speak to a midwife, please go to the Leicester Royal Infirmary. For patients who are more than 32 weeks pregnant and who need to speak to midwife, they should go to the hospital where they were booked.

Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause. We are working hard to resolve the issues, and we will keep you updated with time-marked updates to this post.

April is Stress Awareness Month.

There’s no doubting that the path to parenthood can be a stressful time for all involved. The treatment, the waiting, the setbacks and the victories – the entire process is often a rollercoaster of emotions.

We wanted to share some ideas about how you can look after yourself when trying to have a fertility baby. While the end goal is to bring the joy of new life into the world, it’s so important to make sure you look after yourself along the way.

Yesterday was International Women’s Day – the perfect opportunity to celebrate some of the women who helped to pioneer modern fertility treatment.

👩‍🔬 Miriam Menkin fertilised the first human egg outside the body in 1944, proving that in-vitro fertilization (IVF) could work.

🔬 Anne McLaren’s groundbreaking research on embryo development in the 1950s laid crucial scientific foundations for IVF.

🧬 Jean Purdy, an embryologist, played a central role in the team that developed IVF, leading to the birth of the world’s first IVF baby in 1978.

Their amazing work helped to shape the fertility treatments that have supported millions of families around the world today, and we are proud to be continuing that incredible legacy here at Leicester Fertility Centre.

Our services wouldn’t be what they are today without the talent, dedication and kindness of the women in our team, both past and present. We thank and salute you all!

True or false?
One cycle of IVF takes 8 to 10 weeks.

Many people know what IVF involves, but fewer are sure how long a cycle actually lasts. So, is it really 8 to 10 weeks?

The answer is false. In most cases, an IVF cycle takes around 3 to 6 weeks from start to finish. That means that, while IVF can feel physically and emotionally demanding, the treatment phase itself is often shorter than people expect.

Knowledge can bring reassurance, and every journey is unique.
