Oh it’s been such a busy week! I feel ready for a Friday night flop on the sofa!
I wanted to end the week with this really lovely message that I received on Wednesday through my page.
I honestly feel so proud of the children & young people that I support and it means the absolute world to me when I receive feedback like this 💕 Knowing that I may have helped, just a little bit, is everything.

However, I feel that it’s the young person that has done all of the hard stuff. Working through big emotions and developing new strategies and thought processes is tough. I hope they are as proud of themselves as I am of them 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

So, I tried a new exercise in the gym today… I’ve been coming a while but often feel self conscious (& a little anxious) but today I thought ‘Just do it!’ and I felt very proud of myself! And you know what? Nobody stared 👀 Nobody even looked at me 👀 Everyone else was too busy with their own stuff to notice 👍🏼

I suppose even people in therapeutic professions get anxious too! 🤷🏻‍♀️

It made me think about ‘processing’ I’ve been thinking of trying more stuff at the gym for a while, just thinking, wondering what would happen if… then not doing it, but wanting to… ⏰

When children come to my 1-1 support sessions, a lot of the the real change happens afterwards, as they quietly process what they have talked about and learned and they begin to make sense of it in their own time.
It’s natural to hope for immediate improvements, but growth often unfolds slowly and sometimes even weeks after sessions end 🌟
Not seeing change straight away, doesn’t mean it hasn’t worked it may simply mean the processing is till happening 🥰

I have worked in schools for as long as I can remember! Some have been permanent full time jobs others shorter contracts and currently, in my role as an emotional wellbeing practitioner, I go into schools to deliver Drawing & Talking Therapy or as part of my work with the Curve Theatre and the Shine project 🌟

This week I’ve been in a Secondary school to meet a fantastic group of young people who will be participating in the Shine programme next term. You will all know how proud I am to be a part of the project and one of the things that stands out to me about Shine is the sense of belonging it nurtures in students and practitioners 🌟
Having now worked on both sides of the school ‘fence’ I understand that not every pupil that goes to school feels a sense of belonging there. That’s one of the reasons that I feel so passionate about the Shine programme and the difference it can make 🌟
