Frances is also a passionate advocate for the health and environmental benefits of a whole foods, plant based diet. Consultations:

Frances currently offers video and telephone consultations from her home-based practice. She hopes to be able to offer in person consultations again in 2022 dependant upon the Covid 19 situation. This enables Frances to form a clear picture of your health history and is the starting point for the development of the therapeutic partnership. Acceptance for treatment:

Nutritional therapy is a recognised complementary therapy and is generally considered to be very safe. However, it may occasionally be necessary for Frances to seek the advice of your medical practitioner before accepting you as a client and / or proceeding with treatment. consent to treatment:

All clients are required to sign a consent to treatment form prior to their initial consultation. Consultation pricing:

Frances offers a range of consultation packages and programmes to meet her clients individual requirements. These are detailed in the Consultation Packages & Programmes Brochure found at https://www.nourishandrenew.wordpress.com

The largest-ever study of soya and breast cancer, found that women who ate the most soya had a 59% lower risk of premenopausal breast cancer compared with those who ate the least. Look up "The Shanghai Women’s Health Study" to read more.

There is a lot of scaremongering around soya, but please be reassured that soya is not only safe to eat, it is very good for our health.

And for the claims that soya-eating vegans are driving deforestation - only 7% of global soya is used for foods such as tofu and soya milk (and most soya food producers in the UK use beans grown in Europe). The majority of soya is grown as food for cattle, poultry and pigs.

As you probably know from my page, I'm all in favor of plants. After returning from a large expo featuring all the latest innovations in food, supplements, and personal care products, I can see that 'plant-based' everything is taking hold. That said, don't let the 'plant' reference deceive you into thinking that just because it's from plants, it's healthy. I see a lot of plant-based, ultra-processed foods out there that have me scratching my head. They don't all carry the true health halo. Stay close to whole foods!

Did you know that ginger root may be as effective as anti inflammatory painkillers such as ibuprofen and mefanamic acid in easing period pain? It may also help with the pain associated with arthritis. For benefits to be felt 500mg of standardised ginger root needs to be taken 2-3 x per day. 😊

These look beautiful! And the recipe is easily adaptable too, you could use different nuts, or replace the honey with softened dates or figs for a slightly different taste 😊

RAINBOW ENERGY BALLS

2 cups organic gluten-free rolled oats
1 cup organic hazelnuts
1 cup organic ground flaxseed meal (or psyllium)
1 cup organic nut butter of your choice
1/2 cup honey (I used some Manuka honey)

Put all ingredients in a food processor and blend for about a minute until the mixture is sticky. Form into 1-inch balls using hands and set each one on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

Optional: Coat balls in individual bowls using organic beet root powder (red), organic turmeric (orange), organic ginger (yellow), organic moringa (green), organic spirulina (blue-green), organic bilberry (or acai) powder (purple), and organic sesame seeds (or unsweetened shredded coconut) (white). Put in freezer for about an hour to set. Store in refrigerator or in freezer until ready to eat.

Simple swaps can benefit your health immensely 🌱

In a University of Michigan study, researchers looked at nearly 6,000 foods, using a Health Nutritional Index to quantify the health effects in minutes of healthy life gained or lost. They found that even small changes to your diet can have a big effect on both your health and your carbon footprint.

Swapping just 10% of your daily intake of beef and processed meat for fruits, vegetables, nuts and pulses could gain you 48 minutes per day and reduce your carbon footprint from food by a third!

During graduate school, I studied the plant-based carotenoids by measuring them in the body, in the lab, and in foods. While this category of phytonutrients comprises ~700 plant compounds, there are about 40 in the diet, and even less in the blood & tissues (about 20). We know so much more about them now than we did back when I was in school in the early 1990s. I marvel at how they concentrate in certain parts of the body for specific functions. Most people know about lutein/zeaxanthin localizing in the macula (back of the eye), but they are also found in blood, fat tissue, skin, breast, brain, ovaries, and s***m.

Here is an overview of some of the more common carotenoids, the body systems they (generally) play roles in, and select food sources.
