Today we celebrated Manjula being our first internal OSCE nurse. It has only taken her 14 years to get her registration to nurse in the UK. We couldn’t be more proud to call you a nurse and so glad you choose to be part of our team.

February is Heart Month ❤

A medical emergency involving the heart, such as a cardiac arrest or a heart attack can happen to anyone at any time.

A cardiac arrest is when your heart suddenly stops pumping blood around your body. Although it is sometimes mistaken for a heart attack, if someone is in cardiac arrest they collapse suddenly and will be unconscious, unresponsive, and not breathing or breathing normally – this may mean they’re making gasping noises.

A heart attack happens when there’s a sudden loss of blood flow to a part of the heart muscle. This causes symptoms such as pain or a feeling of pressure or a burning in the chest. Someone having a heart attack is usually conscious.

Both a cardiac arrest and a heart attack are medical emergencies, and you should call 999 straight away.

Today is our deputy sister Tendai’s last day on 33. She has been part of the ward 33 family for the last 12 years. We wish Tendai all the luck in her new role and she will be missed so much.

We are looking at doing a video walk through of the ward aimed mostly at young congeniality heart disease patients to help familiarise them with the ward before they one day will need to come for a visit. As some of you have been patients on ward 33 is there anything that would be useful for them to know that can be added to the video?

Today we celebrated Jo who was nominated for 2 outstanding contribution awards. Ward 33 would not run without her she is what holds everything together and keeps us all doing the things we need to do to make the ward run efficiently. Every ward needs a Jo ⭐️

Colleagues from Ward 29, Glenfield, went ‘above and beyond’ to make sure that a patient with terminal cancer was able to marry the love of his life.

Jason Bowers married Gemma Cooper in a ceremony held in the grounds of the Glenfield, with support from the ward team led by Ward Sister, Zoe Kinsey. The couple were blessed by Chaplain, Alison Davis, after the ceremony.

Gemma said: “The whole thing was organised within 48 hours, yet the day was very calm and the nurses made it beautiful for us. I can’t thank them enough for making this happen. They are amazing.”

They’re now all set up in each bay & sideroom so our patients have something to keep them entertained throughout their stay in hospital with us❤️‍🩹

We now have a Braille menu for our visually impaired patients! 😊 Our main priority is to ensure all patients needs are met and these menus promote this. Thank you Vista Blind Association for providing this for us!

We are doing a raffle to raise money to buy radios & activity packs for our patients! 📻🖍️🎶 Some of our patients are on the ward for a while waiting for surgery and we feel this would benefit the patients mental health and well-being.
£1 a strip please speak to a member of staff on the ward for more info! 😊 the winners will be drawn next Friday 9th June.
