๐Ÿฉธ Blood in your p*e is a warning sign.

๐Ÿ”ด Red
๐ŸคŽ Brown or rusty
๐Ÿฉธ Like streaks of blood
Even if you notice this just once, donโ€™t ignore it โš ๏ธ

๐Ÿ’™ โ€œMy heartburn felt like a warning sign โ€“ and it was.โ€ UPDATE on John's journey!

๐Ÿ“บ A few weeks ago, we shared the story of Nottingham resident John who has bravely shared his story with BBC News East Midlands as part of our partnership with Heartburn Cancer UK and NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to raise awareness of persistent heartburn.

We are very pleased to share that John has recently undergone life saving surgery, which was successful. John is now recovering at home with his family ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ

๐Ÿ’ฌ By speaking so openly, John is helping to spark vital conversations that could save lives. Weโ€™re incredibly grateful to him for sharing his story and highlighting the importance of seeking medical advice if heartburn doesnโ€™t go away.

๐Ÿ’™ Hospitals are teaming up with local food banks to boost bowel cancer screening ๐Ÿ’™

Kettering General Hospital and Northamptonshire Bowel Screening Centre have partnered with food banks across Northampton to help raise awareness of bowel cancer and encourage people aged 45+ to complete their free NHS screening test.

๐Ÿ›’ April marked Bowel Cancer Awareness month, so volunteers at seven food banks shared information about bowel cancer symptoms and the screening process alongside everyday essentials, helping start conversations in communities where screening uptake is lower.

๐Ÿงป This NHS funded initiative is supported by Bowel Cancer UKโ€™s campaign, with Morrisons delivering toilet rolls free of charge. Many food bank volunteers have also completed Cancer Champion training, supported by us here at the East Midlands Cancer Alliance.

โœ… Our message is simple:
When your bowel cancer screening kit arrives, complete it and return it. Your next poo could save your life.
