A successful Diabetic Foot Clinic was recently held for patients at the surgery, helping identify early signs of foot complications and providing practical advice on daily foot care.

Diabetes can damage blood vessels and nerves in the feet, which increases the risk of ulcers, infection and long term complications if problems go unnoticed. Simple checks can help detect early warning signs.

During the clinic, patients received foot assessments, guidance on recognising symptoms, and advice on protecting their foot health.

Education and prevention remain key parts of diabetes care.

Thank you to the clinical team for supporting patients and raising awareness about the importance of regular diabetic foot checks.

Living with your stoma.

In this video podcast from Horizon Healthcare, our doctor speaks directly with a patient who is currently living with a stoma, sharing an honest and grounded conversation about real life after surgery.

They discuss what day to day living is really like, how routines change, the emotional impact, and the practical adjustments that come with having a stoma. The focus stays on lived experience rather than medical jargon.

A stoma is a surgically created opening on the abdomen that allows waste to leave the body after bowel or bladder surgery. For many people it is a necessary and life sustaining part of their treatment, yet it can also raise questions around confidence, independence, work, and relationships.

This podcast aims to inform, reassure, and normalise these experiences. It is relevant for people living with a stoma, those awaiting surgery, carers, and anyone who wants a clearer understanding of what living with a stoma really involves.

Are you a man turning 65? If so, this is for you.

The NHS offers a free abdominal aortic aneurysm screening for men aged 65 and over. Many people with an AAA have no symptoms at all, which is why screening is so important.

The scan is quick and straightforward. It takes around 10 minutes and you will get your result straight away. A handheld ultrasound scanner is gently moved over the abdomen and most people find it comfortable.

This simple check could save your life.

If you are turning 65, look out for your screening invitation arriving in the post.
If you are over 65 and have not yet been screened, you can book directly.

Call 0116 2586820 to arrange your appointment.

Horizon Healthcare has a strong culture of service and care. Recent awards show the impact our clinicians make every day.

Dr Hina Trivedi received the UHL Positive Impact Award for her work as a General Practitioner. This award follows more than seven hundred submissions across fifteen categories. The standard of nominations was high and many came directly from patients and families. Dr Trivedi stood out for her steady commitment to people who rely on our service.

Dr Eldo Saji received the RCGP Justin Allen Award. His work reflects the best of general practice and shows what can be achieved through consistent effort and clear patient focus.

Dr Adunola Adebowale received the RCGP GP Registrar Award. This recognises strong clinical skill and a clear contribution to primary care at an early stage of a GP career.

These awards matter because they highlight real work done in our surgeries and in our local community. You see the long days. You see the pressure. You see the moments when patients need support that goes beyond routine care. Awards do not fix the challenges we face but they show that our approach works and that people notice.

The UHL Recognition Awards will be announced on 3 October at Athena in Leicester. Being shortlisted alone says something important. It shows that the quality of work across Horizon Healthcare stands out even when compared with the high standards across our hospitals.

If you use our service, you already know the difference these clinicians make. If you work with them, you see how they lead with action rather than words.

We recognise their achievement.

We thank them for raising the standard for us all.

New winter support for children and young people in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

A new Acute Respiratory Illness and Response Hub is now open to help children with coughs, colds, wheezing and other respiratory symptoms this winter.

The hub offers urgent clinical assessment by trained professionals for non life threatening respiratory illness. Appointments run Monday to Friday, 2pm to 9pm, via referral from GP practices, NHS 111 or Children’s Emergency Department triage.

This helps children get the right care at the right time, while allowing emergency teams to focus on serious and life threatening cases.

For most coughs and colds, start with self care or advice from your local pharmacist. Call NHS 111 if you are unsure or worried.

Only attend Children’s Emergency Department if advised by a healthcare professional or if there are severe symptoms such as breathing difficulties or blue lips.

Supporting families to access the right care this winter.

Grief can feel heavier during the festive period.
If you have lost a child, you do not have to face this alone.

Horizon Healthcare works with The Laura Centre to offer specialist mental health support for bereaved adults. Their team provides space to talk, space to feel and space to find your footing again.

They have created resources on financial support, returning to work, caring for your living children, rebuilding relationships and coping at your own pace.

The Laura Centre relies on community support to keep these services available. Their target this season is to raise two thousand five hundred pounds so more families can receive specialist care.

If you need support, reach out. You deserve to be heard and held with care.
